Looks like it runs in the family.

What appears to run in the family is recklessness. A reporter who covered Pistorius in the past recalled his driving at 140 mph. He also was involved in a serious crash in a boat, after which he supposedly vowed to tone down his wild life. I don’t know any of the details of his brother’s accident, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that he was driving over the speed limit, under the influence, or in some other manner that contributed to the death.

On a cycling forum, I think most recognize that elite athletes (though I hesitate to describe OP that way) very frequently live on the edge, taking major risks both out of as well as in competition. This "I'm invulnerable" attitude, surely, makes it more likely they will not only have a gun, but threaten someone with it, and probably also makes it more likely that they will pull the trigger in a moment of rage.

I do find it interesting that the detective's murder charge came out before the bail hearing, while his brother's charge comes out later. Both involved incidents fairly far in the past.

those bungling south african police couldn't even keep him in custody

Not really. Even if they don't have a moral compass, I would think that the idea of losing their sponsorship(s) and no longer being able to compete would be an effective antidote to a moment of blind rage.

And isn't it a pretty big leap to assume that OP's default position is to blow someone away when he gets upset?

Looks like he iS fond of yelling:

but no mention of him blowing any of them away.

Man, it seems like everyone involved in this case has murder in the background. First, the detective. Then Pistorius' brother. And now Magistrate Desmond Nair:

Nair himself was in private mourning on Tuesday. He confirmed that he is related to a woman suspected of killing her two children and committing suicide on the weekend.

The revelation was the latest twist in the saga of Pistorius and prominent figures linked to the case against the double-amputee athlete.

The bodies of a woman and her two sons were found Sunday evening at their Johannesburg home by her ex-husband, police Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said. Authorities suspect the woman administered a substance that killed her children, and took her own life by ingesting it as well.

''I can confirm the deceased is my first cousin,'' Nair told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.''

Jeez I guess he does have a dark side

Nair said in the bail speech that OP once threatened to break someone's legs. That's sort of like LA hoping one of his competitors got cancer.

No it is more like LA threatening to castrate somebody however I doubt he has the balls to do it.
