I was going to nix this colored grout and demand white. But the boss worker picked it out and keeping with not trying to make this like a USA house (impossible with out knocking it down and starting over) I went with his choice. I'm liking it more and more

I don't know but I think I would have installed the electrical outlet before the cabinet.

"krebs Old House" another fine installment :)
fun during the off season here.

The tile is addicting---just think, you've got the rest of your life to keep tiling. I have seen this on tv before...husband or wife tiles everything in sight. Amazing.

Between this and the Lance Indictment Process I'm thouroughly entertained.

construction in north america is soooooo different then construction in portugal, i mean its so different its almost amazing. i know a guy( much older then me) who worked in the US building houses a few decades ago and he was amazed at how easy it was build, reconstruct or restructure a house there due to the type of construction.

the typical portuguese house(traditional house not modern construction) is mostly made of granite and marble and stuff like that, hell i have a granite wall in my kitchen, its there for decorative reasons only but i must say it looks pretty cool. if i remember i will take some pics this weekend and we can compare the different types of constructions, hell if other people joins us we could compare constructions from all around the world (only traditional ones tho :p)

p.s. i may be studying mechanical engineering but i do find all types of engineering, civil inclusive, interesting

some things there are SO old, but the interesting thing is that the workers use whatever they have and usually get creative...

This is common village style...wealthy expats and govt folks have grand places with marble floors etc
I love this. ...will find some more

The house I lived in when I lived in Portugal was made of brick, built by the family that I lived with. Other family members were building next door. The brick was covered by plaster. Very cold inside in the winter. Not easy to move walls or change as it is here in the states. The house ended up with tile like the middle picture of your other post, not the typical Portugal blue, but a terra cotta color tile.

Some workers were tearing down a house in the small town near Lisbon and taking off the tiles covering the front of the house. People I was with were getting as many as they could. Tiles were over 100 years old. I have a couple. Just don't know what I am going to do with them.

I loved the homes covered in tiles! So different from here in the States, so colorful and unique.

My house was originally just cinder block and concrete. The ceiling and interior walls and arches are more recent additions as are the kitchen, back bathroom and storeroom.

Whoa six burner stove!

What's the reason for the fridge being off the floor?

I'm too tall and a bad back. If I don't raise it I can only reach the front half of the top 2 shelves:( any thing below my waist is dangerous territory for me.
The front of the cinder blocks will be tiled.

even pots and pans in the old kitchen were on the counter. I'm not sure what to do now

krabs:D looking into your endeavor day after day remind me of similar project of mine which started with cutting old trees and branches, and ended with trucks of dirt, bulldozers and multimillion costs for me:D
So I learned a lesson that good planning is everything.
I am not sure about that front trench where palm trees are, just where fence is. Is it safe, I mean heavy rain can make a lot of **** there.
Keep it going krebs, I mean there is nothing better than looking into other guy hard work:D

My front yard was stolen by the OG who lived here before me. He sold to the guy across the street to level his property.
Welcome to Mexico:D

Here's what it looked like when bought it.

The lot across the street is where it went

I will plant some kind of ground cover there to slow erosion

Did I ever mention that the OG ran a brothel out of this house. Apparently there was a big white star on the front of the house that lit up during business hours:eek:

OG= Original Gangster. He was wanted by the law in the US and could not return. I never really wanted to know what he was wanted for.
