He can just claim Boonen kissed him on the lips, left coke residue.
Wasn't that Tommeke's excuse?

Boonen said he can stay sober for 363 days a year but those 2 other days he gets so drunk he does some very irresponsible things. all sorts of partydrugs and 16 year olds
To be fair, if I won Paris-Roubaix I'd probably lose track of a day or two as well, whereabouts clauses be damned! :D

2 years for some coke. You miss that

Apparently gerva used to drink 6 big cups of coffee every morning to stay awake in the race. Probably it wasn't enough and he needed something stronger to make him get out of bed.

Obviously, I understand there is a punishment but what I don't understand is why the hassle of fighting something that he has already confessed to? What is the point of that? Is he hoping that they will feel sorry for him and somehow decide not to ban him?

He took coke, he got caught, he confessed, and now he wants to fight it? WTF?

Sleeping pills make you feel like a zombie in the morning, so him drinking huge amounts of coffee to hide his addiction from the team isn't a huge surprise, the whole story is pretty sad.
About sleeping pills being the norm in a gt, that wouldn't surprise me, recovery is vital and with all the stories about crappy hotel rooms I can imagine that many riders use some extra help to get enough sleep durning a gt.

Uppers and downers has been the cycle since year dot, from cyclists to university studies. Picking the right downer is key in not having to use too many phets to come back up again. Stillnox has some horrible stories of sleep walking whilst drunk. Scary stuff. Temazepam is a better choice.

Grant Hackett at Crown?

Why don't we just look up obsessive behavoiur and addiction?

Setting out to prove yourself is often based on low self esteem,

etc. etc. etc..

The peloton is full of these people, Beardy bollox for starters.

It's no contest really, very simple and no science involved!!

Meh, Paolini proved himself 10 times over with his Gent-Wevelgem win. AFAIC he can do just about anything he wants after that.

10 times over and then resorts to choking on coke.

That argument stands for as long as his chops won't stop churning and then despair descends once again.

Anything he wants, except ride a UCI race!!
