Plan A for Jumbo today likely was to drop cyclists such as Jakobsen in the crosswinds. They almost manage to achieve it but due to not achieving that goal. I feel that van Aert likely was a bit too empty at the end. And obviously Jakobsen having an advantage, being specialized for such type of finishes.

Jakobsen is incredible… Feels like yesterday that I feared for his life - serious fears.

Now he wins just like he did before Poland 2020. I would never have imagined that. This crash looked so violent. It hurt us all a lot, seeing him without teeth, with his beaten face, his hole in the throat. He today still looks a little bit like a boxer after going knocked out.

Looking back, he certainly also has had a few guardian angels since Katowice. He deserves all the luck he can get. It‘s a pleasure to watch him winning again. And he wins often, and also big races.

I think, physically, he today would be an even better rider than he is - would this crash not have happened. On the mental side, I think surviving has made him stronger. Same effect as the Lance Armstrong story.

Groenewegen finished over six minutes back, today, in 121th place, I think. He survived Katowice 2020 physically nearly unharmed. For Groenewegen, Poland might have been a massive mental defeat. He won‘t complain, for sure…

In current shape, Jakobsen might be QS‘s choice for the Tour, and Dutch federation‘s choice for the Worlds. Watching Fabio winning races is what we want to see, I‘d say. He had been „just another“ world class sprinter, and became a special person, afterwards. :)

Groenewegen was in the front group but crashed out - He's having trouble making the finals for a variety of reasons.

I also think this mental issue makes it now harder for him to win the sprints, or even to reach the finals. This aggressive style of riding, which is often needed, is what he seems to have lost, or what he might have given up a little bit.

That‘s a disadvantage, of course, especially in the final sprints, where everything is so close, and where finally often millimetres or few centimetres decide the final sprint and also the many battles in the last few kilometre(s) which lead to the final sprint.

The only time you see leaders ride so often at the front is when there are echelons. That’s becasue the best way to ensure that you are part of the first echelon is staying up front.

So I think that Roglic was working more for himself then for Wout.

Nah. Today he was working for van Aert and yesterday he was working for Laporte. You can say that by doing that he was benefiting too. Regardless of that he is the GC lead and is doing typical domestique work. You don't see such approach often in the pro peloton.

I don’t agree that he was domestique work on either occasions. Yesterday Laporte was the clear domestique, but because three Jumbo riders managed to get away it was to Roglic his own benefit to contribute in the break with his team mates.

Today it was echelon time, and the best way to stay in the front is by riding up front. So both times to me are no domestique duties.

It is usually the same each year, except from that atrocious race design on 2014 (when Betancur won).

There is a reason why this is the best stage race of the season.

will depend on how WvA feels after yesterday's crash, yeah. Jakobsen said they will gamble a bit, don't contribute to the chase, and see what the situation looks like in the end
