That's number 2, he felt he needed those bonus seconds.Yet on GC its Remco that has 4 seconds less.
Kooij may not be the fastest sprinter but his positioning and climbing ability gives him the chance of getting many wins.

You aren't, and it is very obvious that most people here have never raced a bike. Why are you obliged to give your main rival a turn when he's just attacked you?
RoglaslowYup. Roglic will take them.
Just like if Roglic gets beat.Histerical thread, when Remco looses big time the hen house will go mute.
I thought he was in great shape and ready to stomp off the rip? It's Roglas first race for the season and with his new team. It'll take a few stages to get it right.
snoozfest?! I saw an amazing TP...and its all thanks to TP!Thank you, it's a pleasure. Today it was a breath of fresh air after yesterday's snoozefest of Strade Bianche and it's all thanks to Roglic.
I wonder about this in the time trial. Roglic looks pretty isolated, team is not very strong..?
Roglic made a substantial tactical error that he got away with this time. He let the wheel go when Remco attacked, which was a mistake. What if he had a mechanical or a crash while Remco was attacking. He did pull it back, but that was not smart racing leaving himself exposed. What can we take away from the first stage?
1. Rogla was ahead of Remco at the finish
2. Remco showing insecurity by going for bonus seconds.
After day 1 in my book it's Rogla 2 vs Remco 0.
Dont bother, same people who where whining yesterday are at it again for the complete opposite thing.snoozfest?! I saw an amazing TP...and its all thanks to TP!
Normally Paris against Nice equals guaranteed echelons, but I haven't heard anything of it thus far. What are the forecasts like?
Oi, roglic
Oi, more passion, more passion, more passion
More energy, more energy
More attacks, more attacks, more attacks
More passion, more energy, more energy
Ay, oi, oi, easy now
It's a certain view of racing, a very calculated view. What he did today was put some folks on notice that he might attack at any point during the entire race, which puts pressure on all his competitors. You won't see Roglič languishing in the back or middle of the pack from here on out.Who doesnt?
But it is still a bad time and slim opportunity to do anything in regard to GC.
Should be other riders attacking for the stage. Not one of the GC favorites.
Sure "its fun", but not very smart. Just calling it for what it is and pointing it out.

He also had a small chance of gaining some time if the folks who came with were interested in doing the same. They weren't. Cost him basically nothing to create a bit of chaos.
Calling it "dumb" or "not very smart" strikes me as a POV borne of the Postal/Sky machine era of racing. We've entered a new era where audacious attacks can be a very effective way of racing.
And the sport is FAR better for it.
I could live without any of it.Netserk getting outplayed at his own game, you love to see it.
UAE's 5 leaders all finished in the group. Job done for today.
I hope a certain someone who loves to indulge in a gratuitously insane amount of anti-Sepp Kuss vitriol will read your post.I could live without any of it.
Too much good racing these days to be a negative fan. Too many riders to admire to focus on whatever rider one dislikes, for whatever inane reason.
New to cycling i see. This is usually how breaks form. It starts with one rider attacking, another responding, they work together and ride away. Why are you obliged to give your main rival a turn when he's just attacked you?

For breakaway riders. GC riders like Rogla know it’s about beating your rivals.New to cycling i see. This is usually how breaks form. It starts with one rider attacking, another responding, they work together and ride away.
Pogi pressed the small group to thin it down. No one came with him so he rode his tempo and had a 3 minute lead. Those were his words and he'd have ridden differently if anyone was in the area code.Poggi did that with 81km to go.
