Non-stop action, turns of events, bad luck. PR delivered (as usually). Congrats to Van Baarle on his impressive ride - he was the strongest in the finale. Also credit to Mohoric - he was super strong today - long-lasting breakaway, a defect and still he was fighting for victory almost until the end. Also Wout was very strong - he had two defects and the latter may have caused his inability to follow the decisive attack. MVP weaker today as well as one week ago - following Pogacar on cobbles has killed him, it seems.
dont think it had anything to do with Pogacar. Just the fact he started training in february to make the classics starting from mid march is a pretty small basis. That led to one big peak in RVV and then he didn't have the base to continue the form it seems.

Still not bad, 1 monument and 1 semi classic is not a bad score.

One thing that always strikes me about PR is how important every little moment is. Say VdP etc don't get caught out early, maybe he has enough energy to make the final cut. I thought WvA's late flat was the final nail in his coffin. Without the mechanicals, I think he wins, or at least has enough left to go to the line with Van Baarle.

TBH I didn't find this edition all that exciting, probably because the weather was so good. Van Baarle is a more than worthy winner -- I'd always thought of him as just a Skineos domestique but ever since that massive turn on the Poggio at MSR last year (was it last year?) I've started to pay more attention to him.

I don't know if Mohoric's equipment was an outlier, but an aero bike with 38 cm bars and 32mm tires is a very interesting choice and maybe made a critical difference if you think that the majority of your shock absorption comes from the tires, which it probably does.

That one is also a bit of the riders fault, ride on the cobbles and this won't happen. The spectator wasn't that reckless.
I kinda feel bad for Ballerini, without that puncture at the start of the forest he could have been fighting for a podium spot.

What should not happen is having cobbled roads with asphalt next to them that doesn't have barriers. It just forces the riders right next to the spectators with 0 margin.

Agreed. I've always stated that once electronics are involved, it's no longer a true bicycle. The fact that all watts remain human sourced doesn't change my opinion.

I do understand that pro cycling exists to promote bike sales to a degree, and electronics increase profit margins.
Electronics are the single biggest profit generator on medium to high end bikes..biggest growth area in bike racing..
