This race was a whirlwind. Started watching from the beginning and planned to fast forward 10k or so at a time for the first half but ended up spending more time rewinding to see all the parts I was missing on the brief fast forwards.

Van Baarle was unbelievable. He looked effortless and pulled away 40 seconds on the chasing group in 4K then proceeded to leave the leading group in the dust without pause.

Wout and Mohoric looked the strongest otherwise and without timely mechanicals probably would’ve factored in more. Mohoric is freaky strong on the races he does well in. The whole split at the beginning gave this race a very odd feel, as if it was a constant chase of 2 pelotons without ever really coming together, but the strongest riders all had chances in the end.

Grenadiers Cycling Network actually thought Adam "I'm mates with these guys don't you know" Blythe needed reining in?!

Haha. Grenadiers Cycling Network.
Next season I’m going to switch my subscription to Eurosport/Discovery because winter sports and programmes about wildlife are better than watching this lot.
They don’t even seem to know or care much about the likes of Wright, Stewart, Askey or Vernon because they don’t ride for Uncle Dave’s team.

I appreciate the coverage, I like most of the commentators, and generally think they do a great job. But Blythe…I can’t fathom how he has a job. Total ponce.

Yah, because he's the only racer who ever used the gutter, right?
No, but I was just pointing out that the spectator wasn't an idiot who was leaning into to road to take a selfie or sonething like that.
If it was up to me we'd have barriers preventing riders from riding in the gutter in every covmblled classics (and on the Bergamo alta climb in Lombardia)

Discovery+/ES/GCN all share commentary, don't they? All three logos on the wall in the 'Breakaway' studio.

Just listening to LRCP calling it one of best PRs ever...did I miss something? Did they not see, for instance, 2006 (hincapie's bars)? 2010 (boonen/canc)? 2016 (Hayman who?), 2018 (Sagan); 2019 (PhilGil), 2021 (Moscon's mudpocalypse). And that's just some I can recall.

I thought it was a fine race with almost zero surprises except for the early split.

Backstedt is very good with only the required amount of Ineos simping. He gained a lot of respect from me earlier in the year when he was commentating and his daughter crashed with an almost certain collarbone break, and despite the obvious (and totally justified) concern kept focused on the job at hand.

Worse; Savage isn't so partisan though I don't listen to him enough to know whether or not he has his own personal Ben Turner.

I think most international football pundits, no matter how bad, are much better in restraining their bias than their cycling counterparts.

Why does everybody blame that old guy, when that idiot Lampaert simply needs to ride on the cobbles like he's supposed to do. 100% his fault. Just stay on the road.

Lampaert even jumps onto that path towards the spectators.

Look at the big thick white line ( a thing that indicates where the road is) that every spectator was behind apart from that one stupid guy. Mohoric was taking the same route as well.

The guy didn't step forward: he was encroaching on the riders' line a lot less than spectators in the mountains. It is the riders' responsibility to look ahead and remain more than an am's length from the spectators. If they do that and the spectators still manage to hit them, then it is the spectator's fault, but that is not what happened here.
