Race over. MVDP wins by default.

Booooooo!
Apologies. Passion, Duvel, La Chouffe and Leffe got the better of me.
In all honesty, I think the strongest rider won today. I also really like MVDP. Chapeau for today's race. His team rider a blinder today.
I was just gutted to see Degs go out like that and then for WVA to get that puncture completely killed the race for me.

Yes, but without the puncrure, I think Wout wins the sprint against him.

Degenkolb was unfortunate as was WVA but it probably wouldnt have changed the result. Not convinced WVA was going to win the sprint. Very fast race and VDP was making every corner count. VDP did the right thing with his attacks as fatigue hit most the of lead group before the finish. Phillipsen had a great race.

I don’t think he was “held back by orders,” I think Alpecin played it dead right when you have a strong attacker and the fastest sprinter both in the group.
Yeah, they made amazing moves like Laporte puncturing in Arenberg and Van Aert puncturing in Carrefour de l‘Arbre when he was in front on his own because Van der Poel and Philipsen did a bike handling and coordination master class crashing another guy out of contention.

Van Aert was still plenty punchy after his flat, and VDP never was able to ride Van Aert off his wheel. I'm quite convinced Van Aert would have won a two-up sprint or would've dropped VDP earlier. But we'll never know. We were robbed of a great finale this way.
