What wait a minute Paris-tours isn't world tour? what a joke. Still a great race though.

Agree.
I'm a supporter of 'Global Cycling' but, the UCI is trying to re-value the events and history of this great sport in too much of a hurry. New races should earn their status, not have it bestowed on them by beaurocrats at Aigle

Nope, the hill he won from isn't on the route anymore. Last year Furlan made it to the sprint on this route. I would almost back my chances to make it, and I haven't ridden a bike in 3 years.

so the finish part of the route has changed?

So, it's Cav ftw then. I can understand them changing the finishing straight, but Paris Tours was always about whether the late break could stay away or not (OK Virenque won one year after a long break, was that with Durand?). Taking out a hill will destroy that balance.

It definitely is easier now for non-sprinters to win. Now there's only a straight finish of 660 meters instead of 2.2km.

Such a shame Contador finishes his season so early.

next year (if he isn't banned), I seriously believe that we will see Alberto doing this late season classics. i mean.. sure he can win at least Giro de Lombardia. Problem is, he starts his season early and already winning pretty much any stage race, so even after a break, a tour-vuelta double (for someone that is really trying to win both) after a successfull early season will take it's tool.

having said that, Contador is just awesome He would still fight for victory at races like emilia and lombardia.

Contador could easily contend at some of the late season classics (though he may have to go solo at Lombardia, since we know he's not the best in a sprint, and he got stitched up completely by Rojas at the nationals, dragging the sprinter all the way up the climb, down the climb and throughout the flat run in like an idiot), but Paris-Tours is not one of them.

I like this race. even if it does often end in a bunch sprint, it never feels like a foregone conclusion.

Mark Cavendish was saying on twitter this morning that there would be "plenty of wind and rain", and seemingly dreading the long day in the saddle..that said, I wouldn't be the least bit surprized if he won..

I'll be cheering for Arvesen to win his last ever race, after losing to guezdon five years ago.

In regards to Arvesen, it is now confirmed that he will stay at Team Sky as a DS for next year.

Supposedly 7 riders are in the break with a lead of 11 minutes. Any news on who that might be?

EDIT: Found some names Will Clarke (LEO), Boucher (OLO), Klier (GAR), Martias (SAU), Delfosse (LAN), Bertogliati (TTI), V.Goolen (VWA)
