Shane Stokes has said that he heard rumours that the team was not over. Supposedly Velonews will have a story up on some further developments in the story.

Pegasus have issued a press release denying the CN article.

"The current reports by some media outlets that the Team has folded are not correct," Pegasus Sports CEO Chris White said.

AS i said on twitter, I beleive the press release up to the "chris white said" part. :/ Sounds like they are battling though.

Yeah, following that on Twitter. Eagerly waiting to see what they say.

"The current reports by some media outlets that the Team has folded are not correct. Pegasus Sports CEO Chris White said. "I have not spoken to any of these media outlets and what is being currently reported is false and most detrimental to a very exciting project. All people associated with the Team are aware of the true circumstances and we continue to work towards meeting the UCI deadline."

Is anyone going to trust this bull **** artist and think that he really has a sponsor?

And therein lies the problem.

One question. If all people associated with the team are aware of the true circumstances, why are their agents hawking them to other teams?

I certainly don't.

Until they have released news and details of a sponsor, I'm not buying anything he says.

I'm prepared to say that they wont' be pro-conti next year. They have huge financial troubles regardless of what the story is and there is no way they will get that licence.

Regarding sponsorship Pegasus has this problem. It's sold itself as an Australian team, Australian sponsors generally are not interested in the European market, international sponsors are not interested in an Australian team.

Bingo! The sponsors which you would think that would invest are already taken up. Optus sponsor national soccer team, qantas sponsor national rugby team, etc.

I think you answered your own question there

Now that these threads have been merged can a moderator also remove the reference to Gillette in the title, I don't think it's fair tainting their name. That was another of DAOTEC's pie in sky theories and it turned out it was George Gillet (former owner of Liverpool).

Maybe Pegasus racing (or not racing) is enough.

I feel very sorry for the riders and the staff many of whom will now struggle to get any job at all, or at best, be fighting over a few reduced value contracts given most budgets will be fully spent. I hope they are all able to find a home.

Thankfully now we won't have to put up with CW's stupid photo pose he does in every interview with his cr@p sunnies on, arms folded, and his bad a$$ stare! You're not a bad a$$ mate, your an accountant. And certainly no businessman.

Ive got an issue with Velonews...suppressing Zajicek's story and then hanging other people out to dry at the first sniff of anything remotely sinister. True or not. Velonews is such a tabloid BS site anyway. I wont even call it a publication. That's too good for them.

That was just one of many. The latest (2010) is that he bought junk from Joe Papp, had it shipped to his girlfriend's place, and his lawyer claimed the stuff was not his. Velonews has been deleting any mention of Zajicek's doping affair from their site; the staff does not want to upset one of their local friends.

There has got to be an Australian company out there that wants to make inroads to Europe. Surely?

Just a matter of researching and hunting them down.
Problem is would you put your money with Chris White?

I can see an Australian team in the future being sponsored by an Australian bank, energy or resources company etc in the future but not with Pegasus management attached to it.

The withdrawal of Gillet looks like another example of a team manager promising things that they were unable to fulfil and as a result their existence is in jeopardy just like the possible situation with Geox.

We see other teams that seem to have no problems rising in the ranks so I'm more and more convinced that it's the lying or delusional team managers that are the problem in these cases more than anything else.

To be fair cycling news should put Pegasus press release on it's news piece as well.

Well, the true corcumstances are still that the team might fold and it's good to be prepared. CW even states in the press release that they "continue to work towards meeting the UCI dead line" which indicates that they are still not there yet but hope to be.

one wonders if cyclingnews has a vendetta against pegasus? CN publishes an article claiming the team has collapsed, and velonation has an article with direct quotes from Chris White claiming it has not collapsed at all.

hmmmm

Hell no.

But I was meaning for the future like you suggest.

There will be a sponsor in the future. Not now and not with Chris White in charge.
