If you look closely, you can see one of Lance's short and curlies still hanging on Phil's lip.

..Not sure if I agree. Ever been on the dark side of the internet? There's no shortage of people crying conspiracy and denouncing governments or their agency's or the evil one world government for that matter.

One thing not in Phils favour is he is not an anonymous bone idle lazy w*nker. A c**t. He has contracts to official cycling broadcasters. So theoretically there could be a contractual trail from broadcaster through UCI then WADA down to USADA. To not bring cycling into disrepute. Or he could be seen by the Feds as being an official mouthpiece of UCI via those contractual links.

OMG I've donned a tin foil hat lol. Anyway, I'm sure when he sobers up and gets a few phone calls he will start quivering in his slippers.

As the late Sen. Patrick Moynihan was fond of saying, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Appears Phil Liggert is claiming that US Federal Investigators offered to pay people to lie about Lance Armstrong.

wow- he'll regret that one:eek:

These are very serious allegations from Phil. He suggests that a person (unnamed) in Boulder Colorado was offered money and to "never need to work again" if he stated Armstrong used drugs.

The problem with Alzheimer's disease is how the person mixes up the facts: Phil got paid by Lance to "never do his (commentating)work again" if he stated lance never used drugs.....

Appears Phil Liggert is claiming that US Federal Investigators offered to pay people to lie about Lance Armstrong.

These are very serious allegations from Phil. He suggests that a person (unnamed) in Boulder Colorodo was offered money and to "never need to work again" if he stated Armstrong used drugs.

Phil the voice of cycling might need to provide more details around these allegations. Including naming the person who made the claim to him.

He also suggests USADA paid their witnesses. Another claim that might need some evidence.

Watch it again (if you can bear it). I don't believe he ever says they're federal.

Is Phil on Lance's payroll or something? Why he is so defensive about Lance?

during the tour on sbs australian coverage, he was interviewed and said something about being on his plane and quizzing Armstrong about doping. And that Armstrong looked him in the eye and said that he did not dope.

So it goes some way to saying that he considers him a friend and has trust. Albeit misguided.

Good point. Perhaps the poor old befuddled drunk was actually remembering the $300k reward LANCE offered for information on drug cheating by Greg LeMond but got confused?

Nice one Phil!

The more people muddy the water, the easier for the UCI to hide their grubby laundry in the mire when the enquiry comes. I wonder how many more of these distractions are on the way in the coming weeks...

Oops! I Seem to have gone in to conspiracy theory mode myself. There must be something addictive in that water!

On the other hand maybe he's just ranting because he's watching his life's work turning into something that will forever be the subject of ridicule, and wants to get his piece of the action while he still has a chance.

I am betting Lance sent Phil a pic he once made with his phone when on the Liestrong jet. The kind of picture Phil hopes no-one was on BCC of.

This is all that was needed to reSpark a Federal case.

I met Phil a few times in the 80,s , even had some races I won covered by him . He was never less than superficial , his reporting always in the style of advertorial .
These accusations , while laughable are also very serious coming from a guy very respected as a commentator by the general public and unaware cycling fraternity.
I'm utterly disgusted by him . He deserves a full investigation by relevant authorities.

Agreed.

We are not dealing here with the "dark-side" of the Internet, as some used as a comparison.

This is the public media "voice of cycling"; making disparaging remarks suggesting improper/criminal behavior by federal authorities; in the context of a big international story about the fraud committed by the most decorated cyclist ever.

I imagine he will get a little visit leaving him in no doubt about who he is casting aspersions against.

It also suggests to me that Phil might be a little scared of what might come out about him!

a few things:

- with the conspiracy theory I like how he says "I could prove it if I had to", and then goes on to say he heard it second-hand from "a chap who used to work with Armstrong". Yet accuses USADA of not being able to stand up their evidence.

- people who question Froome and Wiggins performance are "uneducated". Yup, you'd truly have to be an idiot to have a healthy dose of scepticism about such performances, accepting everything unquestioningly is definitely the mark of a more educated person.

- Love how Merckx is presented as someone who never doped, despite testing positive 3 times.

So, I guess my question is: can someone who's worked in the sport as long as Liggett truly believe the stuff he came out with? My initial reaction was no definitely not. But, as people have pointed out, I guess if the alternative is accepting that someone who you've known and worked with for over a decade is a liar and a cheat, then you might just choose to live in denial.

Either way it's a shoddy commentary on the whole saga, I hope someone has a quiet word and asks him if he maybe thinks it's time to hang up the old microphone.

No need to bring up mr Merckx into this. He has showed himself as one being at Lances payroll so he has showed his true colour here. The cannibal is a fraud.

But Phil seems to be a tin foil hat on later days. Could somebody please call the doctors, he is hurting himself.

Didn't Liggert make a deal of LA looking him in the eyes and telling him he never doped.........;) Poor Phil, he may be seeing some diminished returns on those Lance DVD's he provided the commentary for :D
