I just found today, some pictures of Phil Liggett with my two daughters, they both has smiles on their faces a mile wide at meeting Phil.
Also a picture of Phil and his wife, with my wife.
Picture of my wife and kids with Armstrong, Axel and Phil.
All of this, years ago.
Everyone smiling. I hate the thought of telling my kids that Phil ( who they liked) has the proverbial feet of clay.
I feel your pain.
I have similar pictures and memories. My son hero-worshiped at least one cyclist he met who is now banned for life, tested positive or otherwise implicated in a major (ahem) doping scandal.
The killer was watching him watch Floyd miraculously consume 70 water bottles on Stage 17.
Nice.
The parent:child conversation was enlightening.
Shortly after the news broke about McQuaid's 'worst of possibilities'
Parent: "We should talk about Floyd."
Child: "He cheated"
Parent: "Oh! Yes, uhm, yes you are right." (phew)
Dave.
