I'm not holding my breath.

If, and that's a big if, Muñoz is really determined to go for it, she will be stopped soon enough.

Don't worry, the IOC is all over it. They are already blaming WADA for being ineffective, so they'll gut the budget so she can't do anything.

Atletico de Madrid, the football team, is being linked to OP by a well-known Spanish blogger.

He includes a page from the OP files where the word ATLETI (the colloquial term for the team in Spain) can be clearly read, despite the Guardia Civil's rather clumsy habit of placing their seal in the most interesting places.

BUT, it might just refer to Atletismo (athletics/track & field). The amount of BBs and money is quite high though for a sport like that. Who knows...

it's a very interesting blog, but i don't see him connecting atleti to atletico madrid (even though i agree that's plausible). he says it's probably atletismo. or am I overlooking something?
(only in the comments section there are people speculating about atletico madrid and athletic bilbao)

he also seems to speculate there was more to alberto leon's death than just suicide.

Apologies for posting this link if it's already been posted:

The author makes a strong case for cycling being the whipping boy.

Thanks interesting quote

A few years ago, Fuentes was quizzed about his football clients and which clubs they belonged to. “I can’t tell, I have received death threats,” he said. “I was told that, if I told certain things, my family and myself could have serious problems. I’ve been threatened three times and it’s not going to happen a fourth time.

Proffesional football really is the most powerful sport in the world.

Think about the money involved. A couple of years ago the most expensive cycling team to run apparentely had a budget of £15m. At the same time Wayne Rooney's wage bill was £12.5m. The total wage bill for Chelsea in 2010/11 has been given as £189.5m, for that you could fund 12 top cycling teams and still have change.

waiting for GBJ123 to explain this away as harmless, empty threats.

It's been a very bad day for Fuentes today.
Hamilton's testimony was solid as well as Dr. Gutierrez's. Vicioso was nowhere to be found. Contador will not be called to testify.
Plus, the testimony of the experts has been very unfavourable to Fuentes. As this is about public health, they might carry more weight than what eg. Jaksche said.

Hamilton's testimony is particularly damning because he said he got at least one transfusion from Alberto León.

Also, goes to show how truely dirty it is that they will go to those means.

He was called to testify by Saiz's lawyer, not by the prosecutors.
Very funny Arroyo!

Arroyo made the surprise announcement that it was his decision alone not to call Contador.

"I don’t know what (Contador) could bring to the case. We’ve already had several ex-Liberty Seguros riders testify. What we wanted to demonstrate with (Contador) has already been demonstrated in court," he said, referring to testimony last week from Joseba Beloki and others who claimed that Fuentes was not involved with Liberty Seguros in 2006.

The reason is simple. Сontador is not up to his doping past since he is seriously worried about his doping future. An urgent doping is needed otherwise the Tour will become a discomfiture. An omertà cradle sacredly preserves its sensitive fighter.

So you think he will risk it in order to win the Tour?

Hmmm....I think Contador is a bit more 3 dimensional than some posts would have him be.

He is very loyal (as are Spanish cyclist as a whole, compared to others)
He COULD make a very good witness...to most people in Spain he is among the top 3 sporting idols (despite his doping ban). He really believes his own lies and can convince others.

But that's surely the problem...it COULD turn out to be his "Oprah moment", if the prosecutor is any good at phrasing questions to establish the quality of his evidence.

I think he'll think better of it, now he can't give evidence by video link.

Thought so.....I BET it was AC who pulled out and this is just the lawyers trying to make the best spin of it
