Based on what? From what I read the podium thing is just a side job for her and she has no ambition going into the modeling world. If anything all this exposure will harm her in the future because she will be "that girl that got groped on stage" with all kinds of guys thinking it is fun to do a repeat.

All of you seem to fail to realize that there are many cultural differences. You can't ignore them or expect other cultures to have the same opinion on what is appropriate as you do.

Of course something like Sagan did will be considered inappropriate in for example Anglosphere, which is most (overly if you ask me) fond of political correctness and feminism is really strong there. I've actually been scolded before for holding the door open for an American woman (apparently I was trying to show her my male dominance).

But Sagan grew up in Slovakia (where for example an Easter tradition is to whip women and throw them in bodies of water) and then spent his later years in Italy (a country that repeatedly elected Berlusconi) with their whole macho thing. I'm not saying that pinching butts is encouraged in Eastern Europe or Italy, but it is seen as a completely harmless thing to do. Actually, a compliment to the woman.

And before replying how backwards, uncivilized and misogynist such countries are, remember that for example Slovak women could vote long before British or American women and more than half a century before Swiss women. And they didn't even need any suffrage movements, they gained the right automatically along with men when monarchy ended.

You simply cannot apply your own criteria for every other culture. In some countries it is considered rude NOT to belch and fart during dinner and that's just one example of how something completely inappropriate in one culture can actually be expected in another culture.

Bottom line, Sagan apologized to her, she smiled, accepted the apology (along with flowers) and kissed him. Stop crying already, I can't understand why some people make such a big deal out of it while Maja herself clearly doesn't.

What I was trying to say is that it is ridiculous trying to portray Sagan as some sexist monster who likes "treading on rights of women" when he probably had no idea that what he did could be considered such a big deal in some countries.

But thanks Hitch for giving us an example of how blown out of proportion this whole thing is with your comparison of pinching butts to mass murders.

Yeah she has a good job in the Flanders Classics organisation so the exposure argument is inherently flawed however even if she was pursuing a career in modeling she still shouldn't be grateful for having her *** grabbed if she didn't want it to be as it might give her more exposure (I know you're not saying that btw, just a point I want to make)

The issue is people having fun the moral train wreck can't take part in.

Pope, APPROVES! Anything that might generate more offspring is a win.

I like how the women racer podium's are spinning it in the right direction keeping it fun as that what makes kids want to race bikes (bum pinching benefits who would not like that).

Yep, youve totally figured us out. We are christian conservatives. Fallwell is our idol and our objection to the action has nothing to do with rights but because we feel men and women should not be permitted to make any contact outside of marriage (preferably arranged ones)

I voted for the second option but really think the whole "podium girl" thing is sexist and outdated. Thankfully, there are no podium girls or boys in tennis. Cycling is the only sport I watch that still has podium girls. I know it's something still done in Nascar and other motorsports too; most of the time I don't think about it, really. But, interesting to read the various posters perspectives on this thread and observe where they come from. Sexism is alive and well where I am from and I see pretty much universally people do not get it, as well. no surprise.

How do you know Sagan was 23 year old wearing that T-shirt? Ok. It makes probably no difference whether 18 or 23. I am just asking.

I voted for 2. option, but I do not think that "podium girls" is something sexist and outdated. It is just the tradition, probably not the best one, but still tradition. How about to take "cobbled roads" out of P-R, just because they are too difficult and some riders get seriously injured. For some people, e.g. me the tradition make the difference between the races and classics, classiics and monuments. Some people, e.g. me just hate seeing the tennis players not being white in Wimbledon.

I just hope you do not jump to any conclusion from this. The cycling forum is “game” full of nationalism, haters and lovers. I am sure if Sir Wiggins had done it, the posts and locations would have been been just oposite "lovely British humor".

The sexism is alive, as well as hypocrisy. No wonder that terabytes of porn is daily downloaded in Vatican.

hello bissib. Yes, I do. I think it was a stupid choice, the t-shirt, for someone of his rank, influence, and stature at age 23 (a man; not a kid). His English is good enough to know those words for anatomy and I hope he realizes it was a poor choice of a shirt and particularly does not continue grabbing podium girls asses. I doubt he will after all the fuss. We'll see. It disappointed me to see him act like that but. I really don't think men, however popular, rich, charming they are, should assume they are making a compliment to a woman by *** grabbing. It is simply not the case! No thanks!

That said, I hope to see him on the podium many times!
