Excellent TT. Martin nog at his best I think, he also said it himself that he feels that his form is fading.

Wiggins with another grand title to his name. I kinda used to despise him, but if he makes a goal of something he always seems to take it sooner or later. Next year he will win parix - roubaix :D

Dumoulin what a huge step did he take this year.

Pretty damn strong podium.

Isn't it just that he's not turning the same way as the others? Otherwise I don't understand either :D

Ah gotcha. Most podium ceremonies with anthems I watch are F1 podiums and they just stare to the front, with the faux flags behind the drivers.

Well big deal, its just a flag.

Awesome win by Wiggins. Great that he unseated Martin from the WC chair. Great rider and a wonderful character.

Most riders will never have the engine of Wiggins so they have to be jack of all trades. All Wiggins can do is put out 450W forever. Its a hell of an ability and is enough to have won him a GT and lots of TTs but thats basically all he does

So what you're saying is that his weakness is being able to put out 450w forever, yeah, see what you mean...

Its quite impossible to have the most basic of discussions on this forum sadly. People just completely misinterpret every point one makes so they can attack paper tigers

How on earth you have come to the conclusion that that is an accurate summary of the point i was making is unfathomable

Brad puts out 450w for an hour.

And he can do it day after day for 21 days. That's another trick.

And he can do it whilst maintaining the perfect aerodynamic position, better than anybody else in the world. Another trick.

And he can put out enough power on the flat to match the world's best rouleurs and enough power in the mountains to match the world's best climbers. Another trick.

And he can win prologues and short time trials by putting out more than 450w. Another trick.

And lead out sprinters with the best of them, by putting out way more than 450w. Another trick.

And that's just the road.

Anyway, that should really be for another day. Today, we should celebrate the fact that Sir Brad joins only Indurain and Ullrich as a legend of the sport who's won yellow, rainbow stripes and gold. And commiserate the fact that we may never have the privilege of seeing Brad's technical mastery of time trialling on the road, ever again.

Now for the u23 road race. Who are the biggest favourites? I reckon Ewan will be a top favourite, if he can keep with the pace uphill. Last year's performance was mighty impressive. Cort will be a dangerman as well, but he will have to rely on his sprint and hope that Ewan won't be there at the finish.

Teuns has been riding really well lately and the Belgian team is really strong. The Colombians will likely send a strong team as well. Robert Power needs a hard race but has the acceleration to go away, and then I would mention Küng as a dark horse as well.

A thesis in barrel-scraping!

the problem with this forum is that if you make any statement that could be perceived to be negative about a rider it is always assumed that you personally have something against them and want to 'slag them off'. Hence other forumites leap to their 'defense' against this perceived slight.

He's quite unique in his abilities, and shamefully underused by Team Sky. It's such a thrill seeing him when on song, that amazing flat back position with no movement except his legs.
I know it's considered a minor race, but seeing him go up Mount Diablo in the ToC was amazing, didn't have that kick in the end to win but wow, such controlled power!

I'm sad seeing him go back to track, wish it wasn't so.

Impressive performance by Wiggo!
Relatively small gaps at the top though, wasn't expecting this. Panzer not in top shape?

I'm very happy for Tommy D. He's made huge steps in the past couple of years. He's dued a big win or two next year.

Brad's barrel is full of 1787 Château Margaux, mate. Recognise, and we can all move on.

i really am staggered how you guys can miss the point by so far. are u honestly trying to suggest that i dont think Wiggins is a very successful and wealthy athlete??! there's really no point trying to say anything further. yr clearly incapable of reading and understanding the most basic arguments

Everyone understands you. You need to understand what a forum is - a place for discussion, a place for different opinions! You are welcome to view the facts as you do and interpret them in one way and others are free to do the same. Your view isn't an obvious and inescapable truth.

My views?

Martin clearly wasn't at his best but I'm thrilled for Wiggo.

As to diversity, if you can't see at the very least his incredible drive and commitment to training to achieve his goals as a second string to his bow you really fail to do him and this sport justice. I could easily go on.

I would add Eddie Dunbar to that list, He is in amazing form at the moment. I know im Irish and probably a little bit biased but he has a very strong team all commited to him this year. He definately wont be far away.

I don't know what kind of shape Mathieu van der Poel will show up in, but of course he deserves a mention. He dropped most of those guys last year in the junior road race.

+1

It's amazing how many kicks in the b.lls he's willing to take from Sky, although a few million pound salary probably makes up for a lot.

Yes, I did consider him as well. He is no doubt a really big talent, but I am very uncertain of his abilities at this moment. He has had some good showings this year, but mostly in flatter races, contrary to last year where he dropped everyone whenever the road went up.

The only time I've seen him race this year was in the Tour of Belgium, where he closed the gap to a breakaway of seasoned pros (Van Avermaet, Gilbert, Bakelants if memory serves) on his own, uphill.

He hasn't raced a lot of U23 races, if any. That's why it's difficult to gauge where he stands in this field, but I'd be surprised if he weren't a contender.

How about Zepuntke? He was very impressive at the Tour of Alberta. That being said, i dont know will he start?

Mike teunissen can do well in short climbs or he is only good in the cobbles and the flat? I ask this because he won a minor classic last week, I read that he was in the breakway all day and despite that he won in the sprint again riders like coen vermeelfort.
