There was a harder circuit for this World Championships with one climg of more than 10 %. The organizers wanted it for the race but UCI didn't want to do it.

Next year, looks like the World Championships circuit is going to be for sprinters.

As is the case every year. World Championship road race=most boring event of the year.

And yet we do not see Descender/Hrota and members of the Unipublic brigade leave the complaints and whine around. Why is that?

País Vasco and Castilla y León used them around 2011-12, it was very useful especially in sprint stages, as you got instant results. It felt like watching skiing.

This race also feels a lot like watching a 50k ski race. ;)

Why don't they have transponder time checks in every race? It is well better. Sort it out Cookson.

It's easy enough on a circuit but less stright-forward on a point-to-point route I guess. Also doesn't work if a rider changes bike unless the transponder is on him. But agree they're positive and should at least be in all world tour events, if logistics permit.

Members of UCI prefer easy circuits. I'm not going to say my opinion about them but it's no good.

That's the point of the WC, it needs to be a representative race for the entire peloton, within bounds (easier one year, harder the next). 10% ramps will reduce the number of contenders to a single-digit number, that's the last thing you want.

Not surprised to see the UCI make stupid decisions such as this one. Happens more often than not.

I blame the UCI for a lot of things, but not for their WC decisions, with exception of Copenhagen (and Valkenburg to an extent) they've done a pretty good job lately.

The pack was splitting up a lot over that climb. We will be looking at a greatly reduced group after the next lap.

Firenze 2013 was the best single day race last year. It started late (like every WC) but the last lap was brilliant.
