I agree, totally.hrotha said:There's a difference between criticizing and mocking/attacking in a way that doesn't really invite participation by those on the other side of the fence.
mockery can also be illustrative and therefore appropriate tool of criticism.hrotha said:There's a difference between criticizing and mocking/attacking in a way that doesn't really invite participation by those on the other side of the fence.

maybe i missed something. what do you mean? suffer? what are you agreeing with?Alpe d'Huez said:Though I hope the Pope doesn't suffer, I have to agree with Hrotha.
Well, certainly not the issue of whether or not a donkey and an ox were present where Jesus was born. I was thinking more along the lines of, why is homosexuality a sin? Why can't women be priests? That sort of thing.Maaaaaaaarten said:What issues are related to true theology or doctrine according to you?
The audience of The Daily Show is predominantly democrat, though. When Jon Stewart has gone to conservative shows to make his point, he's used different tactics because it's not the same medium or the same audience. That's why his criticism of the democrats is remarkably different from his criticism of the republicans: the former is played mostly straight, almost completely serious sometimes, while the latter is more about having a laugh at how ridiculous they are. Point is, he doesn't care for the republicans engaging in a debate in the terms he uses on The Daily Show. This is a public forum and the thread was started by someone whose views are 100% opposed to yours. Nothing's gonna come out of it if you alienate that side of the ideological spectrum. There'll be no debate.gregod said:wrong. have you ever watched the daily show or have i got news for you? both shows inform through satire and nobody is sacred.
how does one avoid alienating a side that does not like any criticism of their views?hrotha said:...snip...

Before anyone else goes in, I might as well mention these slurs: pedophile, sexual assault, homophobia, gay marriage.
Not saying you did or trying to, just keep it civilized.gregod said:i have not insulted anybody
