Now Sky is forced in the offensive. I'd even send Nieve or König out in a break as soon as tommorow. It's a hard stage. The 4. cat hill is steeper than most in that category.
Screw the wheel, it's quicker to just give him the bike, like every good domestique for the last century.Volderke said:When it's in the rules, I don't understand Porte didn't have a team mate ready with a wheel? He had 4 team mates to do the chase, so where were those?
About the jury: they are TOTALLY independent of the Giro, so let the nonsense stop just because you get emotional.

Pretty much, aru will get destroyed by contador in the ITT. And uran is nothing in the mountains.
Kinda sad.

And I do feel somewhat sad for Porte and the race...
But who really screwed this up was not the rules, but SKY who totally failed their captain who had a bid for the overall win.
Secondly, if the riders are not aware of the rules they should prolly use some time to learn them..
Remember when Porte went down the car to get supplies for Froome.. That was a calculated risk.. Who knows if this is the same...
If this had happened in the last stage, and Porte had won because if it then what should the verdict be?
Henao is about he same sizeVolderke said:Does Porte have a team mate with same sized bikes? I feel he is one of the smaller guys within the team, and 5+ km on a big bike at high speed is hell...
Nieve won't be bigger than him. Sebastian Henao's bike is probably an OK fit if needed but not sure who was with him in the heat of the moment.Volderke said:Does Porte have a team mate with same sized bikes? So the problem here is that, in a make-believe scenario in your imagination, the jury is not doing their job. K.SkyTears said:will the race jury enforce the rules if they are hurting thei local riders ? ofc not
Except for the Sicard example.hrotha said:So the problem here is that, in a make-believe scenario in your imagination, the jury is not doing their job. K.SkyTears said:will the race jury enforce the rules if they are hurting thei local riders ? ofc not

what a joke of a race
This was done by the UCI buddy, not the Giro organizers. Nice job with trying to start a conspiracy though![]()
That said, the giro organisers decided to withdraw the convoy as soon as Porte punctured. Would that have happened if Aru had been in exactly the same situation?
Never mind then, source must have been wrong
Very sensible post, but I'd like to know if this rule is enforced consistently.hrotha said:I mean, it's in the rules, there's a clear precedent, and people are somehow complaining that it's unfair or that the Italians are out to get an Italian winner? Get a grip.
SkyTears said:i'm curious who is in the race jury, names exactly

SkyTears said:so who are the members of the jury ? who are they?
at least to know who made sure Aru got at least 2nd place
names ?
Christian said:I wonder if the riders involved knew this rule existed? It seems to be a rather odd and obscure one, but still, not knowing about a rule cannot be an excuse... in that sense I kinda feel like this is on the riders or on the teams for not making sure the riders know the rules... on the other hand there are so many rules set by the UCI that it becomes almost impossible to remember them all, especially when you have a puncture with 7k to go in the Giro and your adrenaline starts pumping... the last thing you'll be thinking about at that moment is article 12.6, subsection 4, paragrapg 2 "wheel changes from other teams"...
What I would be interested to know though, is: why is this a rule? What is the reasoning behind it? To prevent several teams "ganging up" and thus creating unfair advantages or maybe even safety concerns (different material on different teams)?
The Barb said:It is unfortunate for the drama of the race but the rule is absolutely a good one and if it is there it should be enforced. Perhaps i am saying that as someone from a small country whose riders would be less likely to get nationalistic assistance themselves. Overt assistance like that has to be punished because, as others have said, teams could easily effectively become 18 in size rather than 9.
Porte and the Sky Team will hopefully accept with good grace that they are responsible for their own downfall. This is the team that prides itself on having greater attention to detail than all others, yet they were either ignorant of this rule or arrogant enough not to care.
