Konig is riding himself into fitness - He's also riding the Tour of Guangxi to get miles into his legs for 2018.

Sure, but he isn't getting dropped by the peloton for six minutes on each stage here. He's working on the front to bring the break back for Bennett, then sitting up at the end and rolling home. He is presumably still a long way off his best, but he isn't that bad at the moment. He was on the front on his own for many kms.

They might as well just award all the flat stages to Bennett in advance.

Bennett beat Kittel, Greipel, Groenewegen etc last week. With all due respect to them, Theuns, Minali and Consonni are hardly serious threats unless he gets his positioning all wrong. He sat down towards the end of the sprint and was still pulling away. This kind of thing is all very nice for a sprinter, a confidence boost and some wins to pad out the resume, but ultimately last week's Munsterland Giro means more than even a clean sweep of sprint stages here.

He says the whole team will be working for Muhlberger in the hilly stages, btw and that the Austrian has been riding well and is here to win the GC.

any chance Jesper Hansen can win this?

It's a late season race with a small peloton and wildly varying levels of form, so anyone leading a team here might have some kind of chance but it's very hard to assess how much of a one until they start going up hill. Is Hansen Astana's leader in the absence of Chernetsky?

I think so, yeah.
But of course we don't really know how affected he is by his little somersault on stage 1.

He really needs to be the leader, since PCS reports Chernetsky was DNF today.

Only in cycling would you post a picture of someone looking like this, and talk about how lucky it was that he escaped serious injury...

I've been baited for referring to the "Walloon Arrow" or the "Tour of France" but nobody would call this race: Cumhurbaşkanlığı Türkiye Bisiklet Turu.

Double standard.
The English name is the official name. The organisers agree with out double standards.

Your elitist attitude stinks, you posted in another thread that you don't watch cycling so disappear and stop ruining threads

Now I'm pretty sure that Bennett will win the overall.

Those time gaps already. And that is only for sprint bonuses.

Not sure you know what elitism is and I don't know where I said I was not watching cycling since that is not true...

I think you are underestimating the climb to Selcuk. I cannot see Bennett limiting his losses to only 40 seconds, regardless of how weak the field of climbers is.

But Bennett isn't Kittel and probably very motivated to keep his jersey.

With this super-weak field (sorry), I could see him pulling out an effort and finishing 10th or something like that. About 40 seconds (or less) down on the winner.

I could see Bennett in a similar scenario like Sagan on Mt. Baldy. I know Sagan is a one-of-a-kind but he is up against a much weaker field than Sagan.
