I noticed that when he doesn't win, he seems resigned. He often loses a lot of secondary positions with that attitude. He could have been second if he really had went for it and clinged on to Valverde's wheel.

hrotha said:I'm tired of everybody going all "Poor Purito! He SOOO deserves to win this!" No he doesn't. No amount of races where he refuses to play to his strengths should count towards "deserving" it. When he does what he has to do to win and still loses, we'll talk.
I mean, read this. It's pathetic. "[Valverde] calculated the exact distance and I couldn't do anything there." Of course you couldn't, so why did you try to do exactly that? "It’d be nice if somebody went for it on La Redoute and made it to the finish, but it’s much harder now to break away to do that. The Astana riders tried it this time round, and they didn’t succeed." Of course, because they stopped, but not before they had created the perfect circumstances for you and everyone else to profit. The pace had been very high and the group was smaller than usual, with fewer and more tired domestiques, and yet you chose to go up La Redoute at a steady pace, staring at each other and always waiting for someone else to make the move. Same at the Roche-aux-Faucons, and same at St. Nicolas. So don't give me any of your "there was nothing else I could do" BS, and enjoy losing as many races as possible.

Looking good for the Tour though, with Nibali struggling and Contador having done the Giro, Valverde seems quite weak as well. Perhaps he can podium again.

If he can survive the cobble stage, he's got a good chance. I'm convinced of that. The course is great for him, that's for sure.
I even think he can win tomorrow's stage. The final climb is not that hard and quite short.

Yeah I hope he can get a win tomorrow as well. Maybe I'm too optimistic but he didn't look to be pushing himself too much in the previous 2 stages. Today the camera was barely with him so it was hard to tell. Hopefully he'll go all out tomorrow.

Based on his face, he went really deep today. But that's good, he need to test himself.
He finished behind Inxtausti (post-Giro form), Froome (always good in Dauphiné) and Van Garderen (too early in form). So good perfomance.

I would say decent.I was expecting more from him and Valverde, still time until TDF and i want one of them on the podium.TVG is following Froome steps, being good here doesn't necessary mean he'll crack in TDF.

Why did you expect more from him? He is never good in preparation races before GT's. He said in a interview after the stage he does a similar approach like Dauphiné 2013. And he says he's happy because he's even better comparing 2013.
Today is even better then i expected before this Dauphiné.

He is one of the favourites of Le Tour, he is one of the best climbers.
As others he need to past first weak alive but in the climbs he is one of the strongest, and in climbs as Mende, the stronger.
