He will do Rio too. It's one of his big goals. And i think he's got as much chance als Bala on that parcours.

In some article he said he perhaps will do the Tour, in order to get the super-compensation for Rio. It's more difficult to get in top shape for that race if you are doing a Giro/Vuelta approach.

But i would love him to do the Giro/Vuelta double, and only fighting for GC in the last one. The problem with Purito is that he always wants to fight for the win in the Ardennes AND Giro. The risk is that he's good in both races, but not super. Like in 2012.

He should target Liege 110%. It's his dream race. The chance he wins the Giro is really small, so why risking a possible LIege victory for a podium in the Giro? I think this is the best schedule for him:

Hmm...I think the longer he starts the season, the better he'll be at the Vuelta.

Purito always rides the classics better without Pais Vasco, and doing a training block at Teide instead of that. Although Pais Vasco is a beautiful race for him :(

And concerning the Giro. He should start to win stages. He can win 3/4 stages if he goes into the breaks. And with all kind of respect to Porte, but he never showed he's a real deal for GT's. Purito still can beat him. He perhaps can finish podium, but i rather see him winning stages.

Porte is going to the Tour. So is Aru.

And I wouldn't be afraid of Nibali. He is overrated IMO and somewhat inconsistent. At least as a climber. The Giro field next year will be the best of the rest. Lots of guys, he should beat on paper like Pozzovivo, Peraud, Hejsedal, Majka and Chaves. Landa is the only problem. That's why he needs to recognize every corner of the hilly time trial (and the mountain time trial) so he can gain time on him.

I'd rather see him skipping the Vuelta than the Giro. If Contador, Quintana and Froome choses to ride the Vuelta, it's going to be hard to win it. The Giro is his best chance by far.

If i was him i'll skip the worlds this year (cobbles doesn't suits him) to focus only on the italian classics, the Lombardia seems better for him than last year, Giro dell'Emilia with the uphill finish in San Luca suits him perfectly and also Milano-Torino with Superga finish and quit the season.

Another race that could suit him is GP Beghelli (PDF with route here http://www.gsemilia.it/gare/beghelli/2015/beghelli%202015%20altimetria.pdf) and also Coppa Sabatini with the uphill finish in Peccioli but i don't think Katusha will ride these 1.1 races even if between 2012 and 2014 he rode the GP Industria e Commercio di Prato that is 1.1 (i don't know the route of the reborn Giro del Piemonte and Tre Valli Varesine is very easy this year).

He isn't too keen on the worlds this year but he can't risk pissing off the coach and not being selected for the Olympics next year.

The biggest mistake would be doing Romandie with that approach. Then you would be already dead at the start of the Giro. In 2012, he also didn't do Romandie, and Pais Vasco. Seems to me like the perfect build up.

Wallonie and Austria are also not options imo. Well, perhaps Austria is.

I think Rio will be won by a pure climber, or maybe I just hope it.

Seeing Contador ride away on the final climb and winning the Olympics right after he won the TdF ;)
If not Purito is ofcourse allowed to win :)

Is that true? He basically race everything he can outside June. 60+ race days before Teide and then another 50 after, in three continents, and for a leader who's expected to get some big win for the team and finish everything, no.

You can say what you want, but Purito is a pure climber. Not on the level of Conta, but he's a pure climber.

On that note... Rujano to win the Vuelta a Colombia 2016 in style and get selected to go to Rio and will win the damn race. That would make for some interesting posts on this forum among others... :D

He is an explosive climber. Definitely not a puncheur.

Puncheur/Explosive climber-ratio:

Albasini: 95/5
Gilbert: 90/10
Gallopin 80/20
Vuillermoz: 75/25
Alaphilippe 70/30

Valverde 25/75
Moreno 20/80
Purito: 10/90
Henao: 5/95

Other riders like Gerrans are on the Puncheur/Sprinter-ratio.

Purito is sh*ttier than Conta in flat/windy stages and in ITT, so in that aspect he's even more of a pure climber.

A "pure climber" term doesn't refer to a rider who only can climb and can't do nothing else. Pure climber is someone who can climb tremendously, who is natural, who climbs with ease, with fluid style, a joy to watch. It doesn't exclude other skills of cycling, you can be a pure climber and a good time trialist, or fast on the line, or a good descender. It's a quality more. For example Contador, he can TT pretty well, and who can say he's not a pure climber when anybody who saw him ride knows he's born for climbing. And so is Purito, theirs TT have nothing to do with that!

His Giro team could be a very strong one. Purito, Taaramäe, Van den Broeck, Restrepo, Machado, Losada, Vicioso.

And Paolini + Caruso if they are allowed to race.
