Will the fact that he is "home" help him, Arredondo?

If it ended on Beixalis, I'm sure he would top 5 although Arcalis is a different climb. But since he is familiar with the roads and has a lot of fans there, he has to do well.

Sure, he was also good in the Andorra stage in the Vuelta.

I'm hoping for a top-10, or an attack in the final.

Bad weather but not a great day for him.He didn't lose much time so he should be good after the rest day.

It was a very good day for him. He finished 19 seconds behind the lead group of five, containing Froome and Quintane, and within the second group of five. That's one of his best high mountain performances for a long time.

It is. I mean, he was really on the limit. But almost everybody was. He still got time on Tejay, Kreuziger, Aru and Valverde.

He's up there. And this is the Tour. So if you look at the level of this race, you can indeed say this is his best climbing performance this year. And maybe better then the Vuelta of 15.

Well this stage was on his radar and i thought he's gonna do more about it.Before the stage i was even considering a stage win.So in the end it wasn't a great day because he actually lost some time.Anyway considering his atrocious year i accept this performance. Now he's got a lot of work to do as a podium place is up for grabbing.

A stage win was already impossible when Bala dropped back and the break got 10 minutes.

And be real: you actually expected Purito to drop the likes of Quintana, Froome and Porte when a stage win is up for grabs? He doesn't have the level anymore to do that.

Atm he's up there with the 10 best GC riders. That's really good. Before the Tour, i thought that was impossible. He's 37 years old. At best, he can reach his Vuelta 15 level. And even then it's not enough for a podium. But good enough for 5-10th in GC at the end.

Purito is doing a good Tour. Happy to see him back at the top.

Yup, he is doing mighty fine. It smells like his 2013, but I very much doubt he will be as strong. Well, its not just unlikely, but impossible. A top-5 is possible altho its not in the cards, but Rodriguez' strength is his consistency. Many of his rivals lacks that - Martin, TJ, Porte and how about Yates. We don't know.

I thought about a stage win after i saw his tweet as he was super motivated for this stage.I'm sure he can still drop those guys,he's not on pension yet.

His competition might be younger but the experience is on his side.Last year Valverde surprised everybody.2013 is not that far, game is still on as long as he stays high in the GC.Yeah he was way better than expected until now so why not hope for more.

Let's hope. Normally he gets better during a GT. Or not worse. He said it himself after the stage too.

he is quietly doing his own business. I hope he can be podium. But unfortunately the ITT will be his undoing.

Purito has announced today that 2016 is his last year as a professional.

He will be missed. The little cigar man has given me plenty of thrills over the years but all sportsmen must face aging and decline. I hope he goes out with a Bang!

Really hope he can finish his career off nicely. He's got 5 races left with the Tour, Vuelta, CSS, Rio and Lombardia. Hopefully he can get a big win somewhere.
I'll enjoy watching him in his final months though and especially looking forward to the rest of the Tour.
Vamos Purito!

I wonder if we'll see him in a DS type role next year?

Only if that means not discussing racing tactics. Other than that, he'd be a good DS.

I think it's the right moment to retire. I'm not really sad actually, because another year could only harm him.

But after watching his press conference, i had to wipe away some tears. It's the end of a period for me as a fan. That's always strange.

But i'm looking forward to his final races. I really hope he can win something big before he goes! Vamos Purito! :)

Just stupid time loss. All day he was perfectly at the front, and on the decisive moment he was too far at the back. So depressing.

He needs to attack now to reach the podium. A lot of climbing left to do that. But really unnecessary time loss.

He's got a point though. Katusha were riding full gas for Kristoff, knowing that Purito was in the wrong group. That's just stupid as hell.

It looks like they don't care about him anymore since he announced his retirement. And that's sad knowing what he has given Katusha all those years.
