Robbed? No. Purito rode a damned fine, agressive race. He did everything I like to see in any one-day race, let alone the World Championship. However Costa rode a better race, tactically, and was fresher for the final few hundred meters.

I was talking about the farce that Nibali was allowed to race on and that in the end he had a huge impact on Purito losing the race.

Better tactically??? Both tactics were perfect. Valverde failed every which way you wanna look at it. He's too selfish.

Purito was selfish too. If he'd sacrificed himself for Valverde (at Trento), it'd have been a certain victory for Spain.

Valverde gave the green light to Purito to attack in the last 2 k, so that's not true.

How does that make it untrue????

You say Purito is selfish, i'm saying he's just does what he had to do and made it really easy for Piti. Piti just had to react on attacks of Nibbles and Costa, so Purito would become WC. If Costa closed the gap to Purito with Piti on his wheel, Piti would become WC.

Valverde would've been WC if Purito had been able to escort him to the last 500m. That could've failed too however, since it's very hard for one man to control Costa and Nibali for half a lap.

Very true. There were essentially 2 choices for the Spanish. Either Purito drags Valverde to sprint or attacks so that Valverde has an easy ride. The first one was pretty difficult as Purito is no flatlander. All Valverde had to do was to follow the attacks which after being sheltered behind Nibali should have been easy. Unfortunately he forgot about Rui Costa as Costa had shown weakness earlier.Had he made an effort he could have joined Rui Costa easily, being a very good sprinter. But he has lost his killer instinct. So he will podium but never win. All in all perfomance wise
1) Rui Costa
2) Purito
3) Italian team
4) Valverde
At least Valverde was better than Gilbert, Sagan & Canc.

There's no way Purito would have been able to close any gaps Rui Costa managed to get if he attacked. In the end Valverde would have had to follow Costa anyway, the only difference being Spain would only have the chance to win one medal instead of two.

Having the slowest guy up the road with the fastest sprinter blocking the chasers is always the right thing to do.

Bravo Purito. A week ago he was 2nd yet again but came out fighting today and won with a fine solo just like last year.

Winning the world tour is always nice too. :)

Great performance from Purito, what a fighter he is. Winning Lombardy 2 times, FW, 3x WT, Catalunya and multiple stage wins is not bad i suppose.

I hope he can fight one more time for a victory in a GT, before he retires. Or become WC in Ponverrada

It was great to see Purito on the podium with that big smile after last week.

And I don't know if this has been posted yet somewhere, but I read this on biciciclismo:

"Para mí, el Giro es la más bella de las tres grandes vueltas . Siempre tengo buena forma después de las clásicas. El año pasado he rodado bien en el Giro, y creo que puedo hacerlo bien allí de nuevo. Esta semana he sentido un gran apoyo de los aficionados italianos, y creo que merecen verme tomar la salida en el Giro en 2014".

Fucking awesome _O_

Porte vs Purito ( vs Valverde ) for the Giro it looks.

Depending on the length ITT's, I'd say it might be a very nicely contested Giro.

It was more or less this part of Ocotber last year that Murito, standing on the stage with Hejsedal and Contador, baking a cake, announced that he would do the giro in 2013.

Having said that, he got his aim of a podium at the Tour, so now it makes sense that one of the least focused TDF riders in the world, will go for the Giro. I so hope to see him win.

I don't remember that. But of course it's possible that he was interviewed by an Italian journalist if he would like to race il Giro again and Purito politely responds that it's a great race and blabla. Doesn't take much for a journalist to use these words in a different context. Could have been a similar story last year.

Anyway, like you said, he has every reason to go 100% for a Giro win next year. I would be very disappointed in him if he doesn't.
