Weird then that katusha DS told purito to attack and he ignored him, he must know nothing too i guess. One of the most beautiful things in cycling is risking your chances, wouldn't you think so?

You're saying i'm the computer guy but seems to me you're the one calculating everything and with purito that just never worked out.

Yes he might have not get the podium in the giro that year or in the vuelta this year had he been more risky. If he thinks that's worth it, ok good for him i guess. Could have won a gt, should have.

Unless you think gaining 12 seconds in the last 800m means he could have gotten a minute if only he attacked from 5k which is, of course, absurd.

Like always you failed to get the point.

Purito . What a shame . IMO he has wasted so many chances. Just does not have the winners/killer instinct of champions. Aru today showed his guts and focus and desire to win.
FIW I agree with hrotha "One of my biggest pet peeves with this forum is fanboys who think the specific rider threads belong to them" Well said.

Last year Purito tried attacking from further out and it always backfired on him. He just can't do it.
Simple.

Which he did when his GC was already over. And i don't believe that excuse.

Arredondo " Well, some Contador fans really do have a problem. They constantly think they need to say Contador is the best cyclist in the world and a better GT-rider then Froome. Quite stupid tbh." In your opinion.

2014 Says otherwise ....

Plateau de Beille backfired?

A specialist climber loses 3 min over 40 km to a specialist TT rider. Unheard of.
Rodriguez probably won't ever win a GC, but neither will Dumoulin unless he somehow turns out to be another Indurain.

You have some problems with reading well? In that sentence i never said Froome is the better GC-rider. I only said Contador fans always want to make clear Contador is better then Froome, even when it's clear.

I think you're are confusing things. I have never said he rode the Giro and Vuelta of 2012 smart. Surely the Giro was a big mistake. Vuelta not so. But yeah, he should have attacked earlier on the stage to Bola del Mundo. He had more then 7 minutes on GC on Froome back then.

But this Vuelta he didn't do anything wrong.

Vuelta not so?! He should of done one thing only, been glued to Contador's wheel all the time, even when taking a piss, and he made a rookie mistake not following him. What Bola del Mundo, he made no mistakes there, Fuente De is his biggest mistake!

For sure, he rode really defensive today. I was really mad at him when it looked he would lose his 2nd place to Majka. Even from my mouth, the words 'coward' and 'lazy' came. But after some minutes, i just realize he was at his limit. He was on his limit the past days. You could see Majka and Quintana were better then him. One extra mountain stage and he would have lost the podium.

And at the end, if you are not able to follow Majka and Quintana, you can't drop Aru and win this Vuelta.

So a lot of respect to this man. Who would have thought he would finish 2nd, plus a stage win and maybe the green jersey?

Every rider fights till they are dead. So i'm happy with Purito. VAMOS Purito!! :)

I'm not even mad that he didn't win this Vuelta and 99% will not ever win a GT. He was simply beaten by a stronger rider.

He finishes 2nd, won a stage, wins the combo classification and could possibly win the points classification as well, that's a pretty good grand tour for a 36 year old.

Exactly the same feeling. I was really disappointed that he didn't won Vuelta 2012, because he was the strongest and it was his year.

But this year, i didn't expect a podium place at all. And he was on his limit the last week. Aru was simply better. So this feels like a great result.

my heart goes to purito. Once again.. it's so close but it's still too far. I don't know when he is going to win his GT. He is running out of his time. If it's not Contador/Froome, then it will be Nibali/Porte ..and now he is facing the new wave of talent Aru/Quintana/Majka. He probably goes down as the most consistent podium GT finisher.
