Landa is a rider of the future. How is LaFlorecita's Contador hype or Arredondo's Purito hype any more logical? They are riders of the past.

I wouldn't mention Landa in the same sentence with Contador and Purito, legends of Spanish and world cycling. They're so much ahead of him, especially Contador. Landa is in the league of Pinot, Bardet, Majka, etc.

Muy a mi pesar,al final hemos decidido que lo mejor es abandonar en Algarve!Con esta sensación de mal estar, era más perjuicio que beneficio!

Good decision.Nothing to gain by staying in the race.

Couple of days rest, and then train for Tirreno. Last year his form was worse in Dubai and Oman, but he managed due to good training to be on a good level already in Tirreno.

He was already good in Valencia.

Better now be sick then next month. The season is on when Catalunya begins.

Affected by the Losada crash. But he looks a bit undertrained as well.

He still should be fine for Catalunya. Actually, he really needs to be in super shape for FW/LBL.

But i rather see him doing some good stuff already in this Tirreno, for my own mood ;)

When Quintana, Contador, Froomes and others comes blasting after losing 3 minutes on a stage like this? Nah, too early, he won't compete for the overall, top-10 at best.

You said he would be fine for Catalunya. He might be, but I highly doubt it if didn't have a mechanical, crashed or was caught somehow

He didn't go down but he got stuck behind the Losada crash and missed the split. We'll see his real condition soon.

Ah, now i get it.

Well, he was indeed caught up in that Losada crash. But i think his condition at this time of the year is worse comparing last year. But he said Catalunya is his first big goal, and an experienced rider like Purito surely knows how to be in shape for the right moment.

But still i have some doubts.

Winning a stage in T-A is still a possibility. The mountain stage doesn't really suit him though.

If it's rainy, stage 4 is perhaps even a better chance.

Year too much?

He was second in the Vuelta just a few months ago, it's a bit premature to write him off, isn't it?

That's what i think too, but it takes a long time now to get in decent shape. But he was sick a couple of weeks back ofcourse.

Let's wait for Pais Vasco. If he doesn't do a top-10 there (or top-5), it's over imo.

Over for the first half of the season. He could still do something in his home GT.

The GC doesn't matters really. Purito equals stage wins through acceleration on steep gradients. Without that he is not fun to watch and should retire.

Well, he could still to go the Tour and grab 1-2 stage wins + mountains jersey, and then ride GC in the Vuelta.

He's far from finished. Just need to find his shape again.

Lulz.

I remember Rodriguez climb like a diesel with Quintana and better than Froome, arguably the two best riders in 2013 uphill. He is highly capable of that as well at 100%.

I say not too shabby. Should get a top-10 tomorrow and attempt winning Vasco, a race suiting him perfect basically.

What's up with him? Coming home in 20th or whatever on a stage when Dan Martin "Puritos" the finish isn't a great sign. Is there an official (ie not a "he's old" or "he didn't bother training") explanation for his lack of form?

The coming years will be sad when Purito, Valverde and Contador finally are done. It will feel so weird...

Someone will take their place, just like they took the place of awesome riders.

Probably, but those 3-4 riders will always be something special to me since they got me into cycling.

Ah they are special to you then :).

Alas it is the way of sport, the young come along to replace the older retirees. We have to see how good they are over a period of time. But a few Vueltas starring Bala, Purito and Alberto will be with me until I move on.

I saw Anquetil ride so many very special cyclists have come and gone since then!
