R.E.S.P.E.C.T. to Chris Horner

His Lampre-Merida teammates completed a two-hour training spin, showered, had lunch, and were deep into siesta; still no Horner. One sport director went to the local airport to pick up team manager Brett Copeland. Journalists checked their watches. A team PR man came out to say Horner still had 90 kilometers to ride. Another sport director left in a team car, came back, and when asked where Horner was, he shrugged his shoulders; he had gone for a haircut. At 5 p.m., just as a handful of exasperated reporters were packing up to head back to Jerez de la Frontera for the team presentation, Horner finally rolled up.

With the enormity of the news of his Vuelta scratch, Horner searched for solace in the only place he knows, the bike.

“I found out this morning, so I went out and rode my bike for six hours,” Horner said. “It’s the best thing to do. It clears the head. It’s where I feel most comfortable, either riding my bike or hanging out with my wife. For me, the best thing to do was to ride six hours. It’s a great day. The countryside is fantastic. … If you had spoken to me this morning, it would have been a bit ugly. When you’re out training six hours, you realize life is not that bad.”

Another kid? He is old enough to be a grandpa :D

He better keep riding professionally for another 10+ years with all these kids around

I hear Chris loves Jelly Belly mmmmm. Wonder if he will be paid in candy?

Since Tvetcov moved to Androni there is a vacant place over there. They also share the same agent, Baden Cooke. As for his salary, candy will do. Just when TdF looks to be made almost for him, he'll miss it. Well, there's always the chance he'll be back in 2016. 45 years of age is nothing for Horner.

A few month ago he said, he felt that he still had 2 or 3 more years left. So yeah, possible. Hell, Horner could win le Tour with 50!

He should go to Yellow Fluo, that would be awesome, is there still a place left in the Tinkoff squad?

most likely uci did indeed warn the world tour teams. on the other hand, papy doesn't want to ride for a few pennies. i think he might sign with CCC after all. if not, continental american teams which will be sad

Horner needs to simply retire or accept to ride for a non Pro Tour Team on a low salary-simple as that. Even for a Pro-Conti is a big ask to hire him, well knowing a youngster is a better investment than a 43 y.o. rider at the dawn of his career and very prone to injuries.

....and please stop bringing Rebellin's comparison to Horner's case, which is beyond stupid

He should saddle up for a commentator's job. That would pay more than any contract he's going to get and be much more entertaining for all of us in the cheap seats.

+1 although I would like to see him have one more season without injuries. The TDF route is one he might sneak into the top 5.
