Vino attacks everyone said:
Difference is that Nibali has been the strongest/second strongest gt rider this year, while Horner is soon to be a grandpa

entire GC group today was faster than Froome/Cobo or very close , doesn't seems anything special

i understand you are a hard fan but  Nibali is overall 5-10 TdF material from my pov, so probably the truth is in the middle. a lot of people were faster than Nibali and also faster than Cobo/Froome today.

probably the weather was more helpful today compared to 2011

So lets say all goes to plan and Chris wins the Vuelta, what should he do next year, target the Giro and add another GT to his palmares or give Quintana, Froome, Nibali, Contador et al a run for their money in July?

This is his swan song

The once in a lifetime opportunity and he clings on it, that's why he can pull this things off

Next year will do nothing, maybe a decent 1 year contract and it's over for him

I certainly hope he gets the contract he deserves but I'd like to see him continue to do what he's doing but you may be right I guess age catches up with everybody at some point.

Little story to put his age in perspective. I have some old DV video of my first ever Tour stage (Sestrieres '99), where a drunk me is accosting an FdJ car, asking the driver in slurred French where Chris Horner was.

Hard to believe that at that time, I was so fired up that Horner had <<finally>> (as of '97) been given the opportunity to ride in Europe. Was worried that at the ripe old age of 28, he only had a few top years left in him.

His level isn't going to simply fall off of a cliff. With his success he'll be even more motivated to continue to ride this wave of elite level riding. The fall in performance can't be that easily predicted although his is of course inevitable
but he has obviously shown to be the exception .

Yep, R.E.S.P.E.C.T indeed ! I've had a lot of it for him since I saw him climb up Sierra Hill Rd a couple of years ago in the ToC, towing up Levi (I think Busche was just going off the front at that time) who ended up falling back.

First time I really paid attention to him was in 2007 when he was (trying) to support Cadel in the climbs and it didn't work out too well as he was always a bit behind.

I for one don't believe in "miracles" L.A. style and Horner's not one, he's legit, the real deal!

horner just making another hesjedal-style perfomance.
guy perfectly putting himself at top shape and was lucky to avoid major crashes and illnes.

funny fact - one of his teammate (popovych) wrote that chris was sick during first week and even thought about withdrawal few days before hazallanas.

I am glad he stayed to make this race interesting and exciting, who wants to watch a boring race like ToF???

I believe he should attempt a giro-vuelta double. but he needs to be a part of a very good team. RLT, for all its negatives, is still a damn good team. If he doesn't get a good offer from a good team, then he should probably hang his boots.

As long as he doesn't crack tomorrow he should win the Vuelta. He's raced extremely well the whole race, has attacked multiple times, and has shown himself deserving of winning the Vuelta, so well done to him. Personally I would prefer to see Nibali in red, but can't complain about Horner winning. He does call Oregon home after all. ;)
