It's a shorter race and different conditions (though likely slower conditions, especially in the sand), but Carrier's lap times in the junior race would have been good for somewhere in the 15-20th place range in the elite race.

The difference is that MVDP on a difficult cross course is a beautiful thing to watch, regardless of whether opponents are near.

I had to watch the first minute 3 or 4 times because he is mostly in the background of the shot when he goes from about 12th or so (right behind Nys) into 3rd. Impressive mix of weaving around slower guys and riding better lines near the barriers.

I don't think MVDP gets fired up about riding cross anymore, but I still think he enjoys it more than, say, riding in the Tour de France.
