Many multi-discipline racers have found it too difficult to race a full road and/or XCO calendar while also trying to race CX in the winter. You only have so many "mental" matches to burn each year so you need to be careful where you use those matches. I suspect road and XCO pays the bills so CX is just something to do on the side if you feel inspired to do so.

Yeah, I think this is it - unless you're Belgian/ Dutch, then it's unlikely to be a priority for them. Pidcock seems to have realised this, and is unlikely to do much CX. It seems easier for none Belgian/Dutch riders to drop it....and I wonder how many of the WT/WWT teams persuade riders to give it up - I think Cat Ferguson is also skipping it this year......

Pidcock won the rainbow, no need to prioritise CX anymore.

So does MvdP, but he comes back every year.

I'm not sure Pidcock gets as much out of it as MvdP; he's a lightweight rider who isn't really suited to flat, muddy courses which need big watts. He said it's a real challenge for him.....I don't blame him for giving it a miss.

It looks like, though I'm not sure whether it'll be blocked in some territories, the junior and U23 races might have You Tube coverage:

Whether that is just Tabor, or the whole series, time will tell.

The UCI pdf
(nice url!)
has only U23 and Juniors broadcast in Czech Republic - so they should be in the clear on Youtube.

Start times:
MJ at 08:50 CET
WJ at 09:55 CET
MU23 at 11:20 CET
WU23 at 12:40 CET

Great racing in the junior world cup races in Tabor . As often it was so cold with icy corners causing issues .I was impressed with a Belgium lad racing in shorts while others were muffled up in snoods etc . Wonder if it will be much warmer for the elite races , day was recorded as starting at -9C.

Some interesting Junior races, and as ever in this category, not Dutch/Belgian domination - in fact far from it. The issue is keeping these young French, Italian, Czech riders in the sport.....

If there is a Women's U23 race, why are some of the women in the elite race wearing black numbers?

Edit: although the timetable that was posted above included a WU23 race, there wasn't one. So that explains the black numbers.

Have they abandoned the idea of separate WU23 races for this year's World Cup, or was it just a case of not enough entrants today to justify the event?

And still the poor CX World Cup coverage; haven't Flanders Classics ever watched the MTB World Cup?? (being Belgian, probably not) No proper previews, or course ride, etc Just a few interviews. Not good enough.

Pretty impressive solo win for Nys, I think he can start challenging Van Aert when he returns (Van der Poel is likely still one step above everyone).

Impressive recovery from Mason to finish inside the top10.

I think when Wout returns, we'll have the muddy courses that suit him, and I'm not sure Thibault is at his best in those conditions. But we'll see.....

Was it just i wasn't paying enough attention but it looked like there were more slips/falls in the men's race than I remembered in the women's, which all seemed due to ice

it if wasn't already obvious, no more cross for pidcock for the foreseeable. says he found it the most hardest discipline, as least naturally gifted, and the most difficult to get up for...winter, living away for christmas etc.
Will probably do more gravel in the off season as he did with the burn in SA, and mountain bike worlds next year.

Wielerflits reports he is staying in Europe for rest of season hoping to get a contract. I hope it works out, but contracts for non Dutch/Belgians are hard to come by.

I love the ambition, but he's not going to get one; they look after their own....It's hard enough for French, Italian, Czech riders.....Look at Zemanova.....if she was Dutch/Belgian she'd surely be on a major team.

I don't have a problem with that - it's a sensible decision. For his size, he's done well in CX........
