A shame Van Aert had to start from the fourth row but Van der Poel would have won anyway because he is by far the best CX rider in the world.

Great race from Nys, the first but likely not the last time that he finishes on the podium of the CX Worlds and I expect him to become even stronger after he does his first GT this season.

Niewenhuis really good too after a difficult season and expected a bit more from Vanthourenhout.

Remarkable how relaxed MVDP was in the pre-race interview, no matter how titles he already has. As if he was about to go for a Sunday stroll with Roxanne, absolutely zero stress.

Too bad we got robbed off a semi 'duel' due to one maneuver in the first corner. I think we would have seen at least 4 laps of excitement. Van Aert looked strong despite not taking it easy in training this week. Should give him a confidence boost.

Alpecin needs to invest in a good strength/core trainer for Puck and Ceylin. They both are excellent bike handlers but both lack a little low cadence power. Whereas Fem and Lucinda can grind away with seated power, both Puck and Ceylin have to wrestle with their bikes and stand too much to generate that same power.
Yes, Puck looks very weak particularly off the bike. Her running the stairs looked more like the junior women and I'm sure she lost lots of seonds every lap on those two stairs

I don't think poor grid position is the only reason we didn't see a real duel, even if only for a few laps. Mathieu had a nuclear lap on lap 1, 16 seconds faster than his next best lap and 20 seconds faster than anyone else's,. Nothing I saw in the race suggested to me that Wout or anyone else was capable of going that fast or that deep and recovering to ride a steady pace afterwards.

If not for grid position and the traffic and holdups for Wout he probably starts the second lap 10-11 seconds behind instead of over 40. Van Aert has the capability to winch in a lead of that type over the next laps. Van Aert did not have clear track in front of him until nearly half way through the race, and from there on the lap times were pretty even.
