Good Point! No positive test for something you can't test positive for clearly = clean. Santa is just as pure as the honourable Andreas Klöden.

At least Santa has always been a pretty good climber.

Sure about that? For years he could survive a little climb to do a reasonable sprint nothing more.

His face looks really bloated.

No, that's his usual look.

Only it's more difficult to notice when he got dropped with 50 people left

He also looks like Alfred E Neuman

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

#Giro, Stage 14. Jafferau (7.25 km, 9.02 %, 654 m). Santambrogio, Nibali: 21 min 44 sec, 20.02 Kph, VAM 1806 m/h, 6.22 W/kg.

20km/hr up 9%, for 21 minutes.

With a rule of thumb that FTP ~95% of 20 minute effort, that gives us an FTP for Santa of 5.9W/kg.

That's within the Limit ! The Italians have learnt the new numbers.

Now we just need to find out if he has won the anatomic jock race or finished outside the top 100 in a grand tour before we can be absolutely sure he is clean.

What's the maximum limit in your opinion?

All the scientists and the numbers are guys are saying within 6 W/KG for a 30 min climb, With one or two riders the notable exceptions who have a much higher capacity.

He didn't go for GC, he was weaker he was preparing for races later in the reason, so that result is absolutly meaningless

It is. ;) He was, pretty much a domestique throughout his career. He could well be having a Purito like breakthrough.

They're just saying that cuz it's a round number and it's nice, there's no fundament in it

Lemond was meassured at 5.9 W/KG at a Tour climb( I think). Being the last known mostly accepted clean guy, they are basing it onn his performance, even though we don't know the numbers of the Colombians like Herrara.
They may have had even better numbers/

Where does Santambrogio sit on the Perez/Kohl/Froome scale?

I'm gonna reserve judgement on that one until next week. If he tries to win this Giro from afar then he will be right up there with Perez and Froome (Kohl's improvements doesn't touch those two IMO).

I bet Vini Farcetini have carte blanche only as long as they don't actually try to win the Giro.

Santi is getting a bad rap.

He was there in the snow in Leysin to contest the stage in Romandie and was doing a good Giro before he crashed out in his first year out of Portugal (ok, apart from half-Tenda he didn't do any climbs).

I remember thinking in 2004 that it's good that he is back into form.

And then it turned into a freak show.

Even Purito showed his climbing skill very early in his career, he's one of the cleanest of the Spanish stars IMO.

Regarding Santa, I don't know what to think about him. He was rarely seen as a pure climber before this season, I don't know what earlier result could've indicated his ability.

INB4 people mention my Clinic posts on Froome.

Lol, I'm not saying he hasn't used PED's, but he's been relatively clean in terms of BB's and EPO in my book.(Compared to Alberto, Valverde, LL Sanchez & Samu) Can't rule out other stuff, but since 2010 he's shown good consistency, unlike Gilbert for example who completely wore out his body. He doesn't use very aggresive agents. And right now he uses more or less the same as the riders he competes with.
