Reactions from the Pro Peloton to #USPSConspiracy (USADA) - post here

Joe Papp - Business Insider (headline worth a laugh)

I'll out myself for an article that appeared today, with a suspect headline that definitely doesn't match the sentiment I expressed during the course of a 45min interview, which was pared down to something requiring all of 30sec to read:

1) Joe Papp

2) "Papp talked to us about the prevalence of doping in the sport and why Armstrong is 'too big to fail.'"

"If he's found guilty, USADA may strip him of all his titles for as far back as 1996. But I think he has fans who will stand by him no matter what. It's almost like he's too big to fail. He's a global brand and I don't see Nike or Oakley or Anheuser Busch walking away from him that easily because they've invested so much in his image." and

"It would be difficult and unpleasant to clash with someone like Lance, who has that much wealth and power. But USADA is very careful and would have to have plenty of evidence before going forward with charges."

3) Former Cyclist Tells Us Why It's Futile To Prosecute Lance Armstrong

Well written too.

This is a rare entry on the internet - a pleasure to read in addition to containing a well structured argument.

Much more eloquent than most professional journalists manage to produce.

I am loving 150 watts of awesome. She is a great writer and is really putting forward some great stuff when it comes to our mate Lance.

Op/Ed from Lance's Newspaper

1) Op/Ed appearing in Austin American Statesman, Lance's hometown paper

2) Anti-doping agency must conduct an impartial investigation based on facts

"We caution against rushing to judgment. Officials with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said they are conducting an impartial investigation that will be guided by evidence and facts. That is their job, and the public should be patient as they conduct an investigation."

"We do not choose whether or not we do our job based on outside pressures, intimidation or for any reason other than the evidence," USADA Chief Executive Officer Travis Tygart said. "Our duty on behalf of clean athletes and those that value the integrity of sport is to fairly and thoroughly evaluate all the evidence available, and when there is credible evidence of doping, take action under the established rules."

"Let's hope this investigation brings some answers and closure. And let's hope it's based on facts."

3) http://www.statesman.com/opinion/an...nduct-an-impartial-investigation-2399636.html

I thought this was an amazingly tame op/ed for Lance's hometown, cheer-leading paper. The fact that they don't slander USADA, but actually encourage the public to be patient, is nothing short of miraculous.

In light of the triathlete crowd whining incorrectly that USADA is preventing Lance from competing in Ironman, I had to chuckle when I read the latest interview with WTC's Messick:

"When I was at AEG, the person that convinced me to get rid of the open-investigation rule was [USADA CEO] Travis Tygart, who feels strongly that it’s a bad rule and not part of the WADA [World Anti-Doping Agency] code and it violates due process."

Stuart O'Grady has retweeted LA's response and he also retweeted Graham Watson's tweet about the drivel that Dockery guy wrote.

http://twitter.com/#!/StueyOG

Stuart O'Grady in a 2007 interview, when asked if anyone would've suspected Landis was a doper:

"I would have, because I was there with him that day when he was in that breakaway. I was actually 13 minutes ahead of him and he caught us on his own and then he basically rode us all off the wheel..... I thought that was impossible, what he did. I'm not a bad bike rider and, you know, he made me look like a little kid."

1) Lance Armstrong - Former rider/team co-owner/currently suspended triathlete

2) "I am a huge advocate of WADA, USADA, drug controls, random controls, out of competition controls."

3) http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/riders/2004/interviews/?id=lance_armstrong041

That interview mentions Lance leading out Max Van Heeswijk for a sprint win. (Notable for being the first and only (?) time LA ever did this.) That mention led to this article, wherein Max Van Heeswijk admitted in an interview that doping was rife on the LA team, then tried to retract it - by taking the reporter's recording device and refusing to give it back! ("The reporter was shown to the door by Van Heeswijk's rottweiler".) Lol.

I talked to Cunningham yesterday and have to say that he comes across as a super-solid, straight-shooting bloke.

Amazing though the scarcity of comments from current pro cyclists...

Ullrich was asked if he had considered the possibility of being awarded the winner of a few more Tours de France - if Lance Armstrong was found guilty and stripped of his titles - but instead hoped for a faster resolution to the case and not necessarily the outcome: "I get the developments but do not follow it" he said.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/jan...&ns_source=cyclingnews&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0

Ullrich really is a class act. I wish others who were involved in doping showed 1/10th the class he does about it. While I don't think anyone should be awarded the titles in the event of Armstrong being stripped, I do hope the future is positive for him.
