And how many are gonna miss all the stages because they haven't gotten home from work yet?

Well, the goods news is that it appears next week the stages of Britain and Romandie will finish around 5 PM.

Hold on; The BYR competition for this race is stricter than Deutschland, despite this being a WT race, and Deutschland being a ProSeries race?
Fewer, realistically, as you just need to put it on your phone for five minutes at the finish and go back go work (as I did). Easier if you work in an office but most (I think?) people do. Multi-screening won't work if you're having to use the screens for other things.

It's a pain for people who want to go to the race itself, but for TV viewers it's clearly infinitely better. Sunday had three races finishing once, it was so dumb.

What proportion of people do you think usually finish work and get home by 5pm? What proportion of those watching in UK/Ireland/Portugal are home from work by 4? How do you think cycling fans outside Europe cope?

Okay, I really need to become Dictator for Life of the UCI so I can put an end to this nonsense of having races finishing before 5 PM local time, when it's not one of the following reasons:

1. A case like Tour of the Alps, where there are no alternative routes for people heading home from work.

2. The race is clashing with another race.
You should move to Colorado. I can usually watch the last 100k of almost all races between my 1st cup of coffee and my 1st zoom meeting. 😉

Well what about all the people going to work at 5pm? For them it works wonderful when races finish at 4:30 or earlier.

Cycling broadcast doesn't need to revolve around your needs, desires and work/life balance, you know?

Cycling broadcast works good as it is I think. And watching stages/races on rewind is much better than multi screening (especially on the same device) imo.

Regardless of the difficulties of finishing times and TV times and whether Denmark is really just northern Germany, Thursday means it's TT day !

Tessenderlo to Tessenderlo 15.4 km, first man off at 12.28 CET, TV from 13.45 CET

That may be true...

Naah. Bike races happen when they happen, and watching the full thing when you know the results is pointless.
Might as well watch the ringing in of the New Year on rewind.

and whether Denmark is really just northern Germany

Germany is southern Denmark!

With Groenewegen going home early too, will this spur on Ewan to get his act together and win some races?
That sounds unreasonably optimistic! :D

Jayco really have a lot of underwhelming fast men behind Groenewegen. Ewan is Ewan, Blake Quick seems unable to handle any race that's not Scheldeprijs, Walscheid hasn't sprinted for himself yet, Mezgec can get some decent placings still but he's not gonna win, and Stewart seems to have had some problems this season as he's now racing his first race since Tirreno.

Thanks! The actual race is indeed somewhat more interesting than TV times.

In which of these corners will Magnus Sheffield crash?

Was Degenkolb in the big crash yesterday?

yep:

„John also had quite a hard impact and has superficial wounds. Alongside that, in the evening he began to show signs of concussion so in terms of his long term health and safety it is a clear decision that he can take no further part in the race, and go home to rest and recover. We will continue to monitor him before any further decision is made on his return to training or racing.“

First DNF in three years. Since Montreal 2018, the only races Degenkolb abandoned were the World Championships (twice).
