The group is still close. Every year they come back fast untill the finish.
De Lie should disrupt the front group now for Segaert. But he don’t want Philipsen back.

I wouldn’t disrupt, just respond if necessary but don’t pull

Disrupting it would just cost energy and make others attack. He should sit back and absolutely not pull tho.

But like you see, they are not cuuperating and De Lie has to close everything. It's a weird and dificult situation

What a weird race, normally that front group would just work together till the other group can't come back anymore

You'd think all teams would care most about the overall classification in a stage race, especially when you have the leader's jersey before the last stage.

Bruh what do you actually expect them to do in this situation? De Lie dropping back? You would have nothing. Their mistake was to let a 21 man group go in the begining meaning they had to sacrifice half their team before the local circuit.

I have a feeling Wellens is beating De Lie here, he is in his typical Benelux form, unbeatable.
De Lie always looks like struggling but then goes hard to close the gap on the cobbles climb. Don’t think you can beat De Lie here unless he’s really dead.

That's true. If I'm Wellens I also just say you get the stage. Wellens GC

De Lie takes the stage after dropping Wellens in the last 400 meters with Madouas third.

Wellens takes GC and too bad Van der Poel couldn't be racing today, hope that he recovers for the Worlds.

Segaert better than expected. Hagenes very good, was active early on and didn't fade away when the race exploded. Expected more from Milan on the other hand. Yesterday's sprint he was clearly not having the legs. But after the spring, i thought he would be better today.
I think Milan still has durability issues compared to standard classic riders. Surely a problem Lidl need to address if they want him to improve in cobble races.

In the end, it went well for them, but I'd have been all-in for GC. Segaert was very strong today and in a good position before the last lap. I don't consider the lower steps on the GC podium as nothing. Heck, it wasn't impossible for Wellens to cook himself and Lotto ending up winning the race.

Especially funny how De Lie didn't even try to steal bonis from Wellens.

He literally did, Flemish commentators just weren't awake and didn't see it. De Lie took the first boni sprint, then was struggling in Wellens his wheel. He even tried to take the last one too, but just couldn't. Wellens was stronger at that point.

Last year they sacrificed De Lie in this stage for nothing and everyone criticized them and called them dumb. It would've been the same thing if they tried this year. De LIe isn't a rouleur, he just can't ride at the front for more than 5 minutes and close riders like Wellens down. Other would've also started attacking him and Segaert if he was dead.

Also Segaert actually good dropped on the last Bosberg. He was completely on his limit. They could've catched Wellens and Wellens would've still won GC just in the sprint.

If it someone else than, De LIe there I would agree btw, but De LIe was basically a guaranteed win in front and he wasn't going to catch anyone if he dropped back. A reason to criticize Lotto would be to ask where all their other riders where. Van Moer was in the break all day but was useless in the end, De Buyst did a good job, the others were already gone before the broadcast even started. That's not good enough. The reason is probably cause they had to chase the 21 man group early, so it's a big mistake to let that go on a flat part in the start.

You don't really believe that he couldn't get over Wellens' wheel, do you? If it were a finish line, he sure as hell would have been able to, lol.

Not that it mattered much, i just thought it was funny.

I agree that if it was a finish line he would've been able to go over it, but he was definitely on his limit. It's obviously always different if it's for yourself or for someone else. But then again, I responded cause he did steal a second from Wellens at the first intermediate.
