Each and every time McQuaid does an interview to announce cycling "has never been cleaner" there's a drug bust of 40 cyclists or some guy almost kills himself all whilst none of them are testing positive.

Poor Alberto.... must wonder to himself on how he ever managed to test positive with all of this going on!

Remember when a clean-as-a-whistle Contador hopped over from the beach to ride the Giro and beat a doped-up Ricco?

Good times.

I'm not saying that Contador was clean, but this famous beach story is not true. Astana and Contador were asured at the start of the March that they'll be able to ride the Giro, but that wasn't made public.

Hope Ricco gets well soon and enjoy his retirement.

We've gone over this. Doping is illegal in Italy, the doctor was probably required to cooperate

Aaah yes, you're right.

I remember this Scrubs episode where Colin Farrell knocks this dude unconscious and then takes him to the hospital. Everyone thinks it's his brother, and of course the whole hospital staff loves his charming Irish ways. Then he reveals that he's "the one tha' hittim" putting J.D. and Turk in a really sticky situation, since they have to report him to the police now, but they also really like him. J.D. finally calls the cops using Turk's name because "it's easier to hear over the phone".

Anyways, back on topic. Nice job DAOTEC collecting all the tweets - I didn't expect the riders to be this outspoken, to be honest. He must have been really unpopular.

I like the one tweet saying "Get well soon - hope to never see you in a race again"

Ricco's comments from the 2007 Giro, Stage 8, from the CN ticker:

Riccardo Riccò (Saunier Duval-Scott) noted at the start of the stage this morning, "I think that someone is at the beach, I was at the beach for ten minutes," he laughed. He was referring to his post-stage comments on Alberto Contador (Astana) yesterday.

He said after the stage, "I am not upset, but Contador was crafty. Was he at the beach before coming her to the Giro? Yes, the Madrid beach! You are not able to go so strong with such short number of days of training." It was unclear if Riccò was making an Operación Puerto reference, but surely the comments gained him yet another enemy in the peloton.

Contador was on the beach in March?

Agreed with the second paragraph.

I'm just saying that Astana knew they'll be riding the Giro since the beginning of the March. Official story is that Zomegnan called Bruyneel in the beginning of the May. So Contador had plenty of time to prepare well.

The most shocking thing for me is that Ricco is now back with Rossi and she reportedly watched him do the transfusion. Interesting about-face after throwing her under the bus when she got caught doping. At the time he dumped her publicly I suspected that it was all for show.

I think the point was that she overheard what he said, not watched him re-fill.

It's poetic justice, it's clearly hyperbole and it made clear I have absolutely no desire for him to suffer serious long term consequences. Sadly other forms of punishment have failed to create any improvement.

I also found your comment on the strong side. Hey, I'm not happy about Ricco either, but I feel more sad and sorry for him than angry. You did come across as quite vengeful - at least as I saw it.

On the other side, the quoted tweets clearly shows what the other riders think of him. Not the deepest respect I'd say.

Lets not all jump to conclusions he could of re-transfused his own blood when accidently eating the one steak in the world that had been blood doped with his own blood. It does happen....apparently.

But to quote Malcomn Tucker in 'In the Loop' - f***ity bye!

An urban legend with no basis in fact, just like Riis being "Mr. 60%" when he never had a hematocrit that high.

Ricco is the Charlie Sheen of cycling right now and its hard to feel sorry for a guy like that. I can only hope its a real wake up call for "the new Ricco"
shame he couldn't really honor Sassi and be a clean elite rider like he stated.

He WAS honoring Sassi with this latest incident. You've completely missed the point.

Allright I already banned 4 people for starting to talk about Armstrong in this topic, from now on the sanction on this will increase for any new offence I see. Don't like it, take it up with me in pm or take it to the about the forum subsection

I'm pretty sure that it was Contador himself who said that he was at the beach when he found out that Astana got the invitation.

But it is indeed likely to be an urban legend, probably like the one that Contador has always been clean.

He probably said that, but he was riding Vuelta a Murcia when he found out.;)

Now back to the topic please. I don't want to get banned for not discussing the main theme :D

What kind of sociopath are you that you would wish for someone you don't know, who rides bicycles for a living, to be "in a world of pain for quite some time"?

What world do you live in that it's ok and appropriate to express your dislike of unethical sporting figures by wishing them immense physical suffering?

You're not a closet sadist by any chance, are you?

Have you sought therapy for your personality disorder?

I totally agree! Let's substitute "PRISON" for "world of pain"!

For Aldo Sassi's sake, thank god he died before seeing this

+1000000 If this is true, the kid really needs to go and sit on a beach and think about what he is up to, this is beyond the system made me do it - although the system needs to go and sit on a beach too :rolleyes::(
