Man Porte is unlucky. The only reason he's a minute down in GC isn't because he isn't strong enough but because his team sucked in the TTT and because he had an unlucky mechanical.

Guess it will be back to slaving for the Dawg next year.

Never nice to see any favourite lose time like that, the tough stages are still to come and he now needs to attack plus have the TT of his life.

No need to celebrate other riders missfortunes. If he was weak then that's a different story.

Shameful display of unfair play. No excuse for some teams drilling it at the front while the guy desperately tried to get back in.

there was no team drilling it at all and besides it's 5 k from the finish. but you've already proven above and beyond not to know or understand a single thing about cycling.

Don't think anyone is openly celebrating this except Ryo. Many who secretly feared him will be secretly celebrating it tho.

Interesting to see how he will react to this in the coming stages, tactically and especially mentally, time to see how Porte is as a leader/gt contender

No team was drilling it. There was exactly ONE team trying to close down the break. Lotto. And if you watch the replay they had all of a few men on the front. There are almost no sprint stages available in this Giro so a sprinter's team trying to get a win (which is the ONLY reason they show up) is no surprise.

lol @ porte losing nearly a minute today. he also looked terrible in the pursuit

can cycling get any better than this??

I'm by no means a Porte-fan, but there was nothing funny about today. What's the fun in a GC contender losing time due to a poor timed mechanical.

The fact that you found it fun doesn't surprise me ofcourse. Our forum douche.

He did look terrible in the pursuit yes.

Rubbish

Those teams are out of GC contention so all they were looking for was a stage win. Wins keep sponsors. Those teams were in their right to drill it.

If he can deliver, I think a Giro podium frees you from domestique duties. He might want to do the Vuelta instead of playing second fiddle.

Dude. Ofcourse the teams are drilling it at the front...
They always are at that time of the stage and Tinkoff has always drilled it hard until 3km to go on a flat stage.

Don't be silly now. I hate the way Porte lost time, but there is nobody to blame besides bad luck.

Any guesses as to how much time Porte can put into Contador in the ITT?

I'm not convinced he will put time into Contador tbh.

I hope he will. Contador losing pink will only make him attack which I love.

Teams without GC ambitions needn''t give a *** about some GC dude struggling to rejoin the peloton. If GC teams were drilling it, yes, that's unsporting.

True.
So does telling people they don't understand anything about cycling. Especially when one have a long list of past ridiculous claims.

Let's end the personal stuff now, ok?

Interesting. All the talk is that Porte will take time in the TT. Porte seems to think so.

Re: Re:

After the story about his personal trailer, helicopter ride, 'I deserve to be the leader' etc.. bullsh**, nice to see something like this put him in his place (schadenfreude). Yet, this will make him and complacent Sky start a real fight, so win win. OK! cue the fawning CN Porte write up.... now.

Again shows that having Bernie Eisel in your team will get you out of GC

His job is to be in front of his leader, at least on flat stages

He was not there when Froome's wheel was flipped in TdF 2014

He was not here when Porte got a mechanical

Maybe Brailsford will finally get rid of this muppet.

Unless I'm missing something the race was ON at the moment he had his mechanical. It would be a different story if things were tranquil and at the moment he had his mechanical one of the GC teams went to the front and drilled it. I wouldn't worry about it. Porte has said he's not had to go into the red yet in this Giro (I personally find that hard to believe, but whatever), so that means he's got the form to claw back the lost time and more. One thing is for sure, we'll being more activity out of Sky over the next couple of days.

I still don't understand how your GC leader is alone in the last 5k, has a flat, has to wait a minute for a car and has no team mates with him for a bike swap/push

For Froome's sake i hope Stannard will be ok in July.

I dont understand how Kiryienka and Nieve were not helping Porte, did they not know he had a flat? They both finished behind the peloton as they were in the 2nd part of the group, but didnt bother to drop to help their leader?

I agree ...this was the time n the whole day that Porte needed team mates
Why was there not a rider simliar in size (I know they are mostly bigger) but Nieve & Konig are near to give them their bike or a wheel...Saw pictures of Simon Clarke pushing him off after change and Michael Matthews pacing him ??? SKY need to wake UP!!!!!!!!!!!!
