Wow what a shame for Lil' Richie :(. It appears his friends from OGE gave him a hand which is nice. But Sky were pretty disorganized there. I must say he appeared very weak on the chase back though, couldn't hold his teammates wheel and Matthews plays dom for him. Hopefully he will bounce back and start to ride aggressively from here on out. This will test his mettle both physically and mentally.

Well, remember that Grandmaster Brailsford is playing the long game. Saving the team for key stages. :p

Yes, but he forgot maybe that key stages are not always the ones pointed out beforehand....

That's the thing, he's going to be a little more aggressive from now on. That's all.

A 40+ second loss is not the end of the world.

Tough luck for Porte but at least he payed a tribute to Clarke for giving him his wheel...

Where the hell were his teammates?

This. And his team car. He seems to be taking it in stride, but I think he's going to be a bit rattled after this screw up. And no, he didn't look good chasing, but I wonder if that was more a result of panic (rather than lack of form).

Bad luck today for Richie,Aussies come to the rescue :) Huge respect for Clarke and Matthews.

It's not over yet,i saw some people celebrating already, maybe it's a little premature.

I think the reason he was looking that bad was that he exhausted himself by going too much with that puncture because I don't think he flat with just 6km to go but with 10 trying to go till the 3km banner...

I think his GC aspirations are over. You can't put more than 1 minute to Contador in that time trial(and not to lose anything in mountains).I always thought that he can put something closer to 1 minute to AC in TT but, also, I always thought that Alberto in MTF will put something like 10s on him + boni...

Why would you think that? Surely if that was the case would have had plenty of team mates around hm

Gerrans may get fined 200 CF and docked 2' for violating UCI rules for providing non-regulation assistance to another team. I don't know what the rules say about RECEIVING said assistance, but Porte may be in the clear.

EDIT: Sorry, Porte would lose 2' as well if the UCI were to enforce their rules.

And Contador will be disqualified if UCI would follow rules . The rules also state that riders will be disqualified for taking their helmets off ..Contador, saturday. so shhh... :D

Don't shoot the messenger, it was raised by Katusha (which is surprising since they aren't in the GC fight). As for Contador taking his helmet off (I assume to adjust it), that isn't a violation of the spirit or the letter of the regulation.

I don't see a problem with Clarke helping Porte. Giving Clarke a fine would be stupid, but stupid is as stupid does. I expect nothing more from the UCI.

A very sportsmanlike gesture from Clarke. Chapeau.

I agree with you. I presume the UCI has some discretion here and will exercise good judgment. Inner Ring just pointed out another, more applicable regulation, regarding giving non-regulated assistance during final 20KM: relegated to end of his group, plus a 1' penalty on GC (and small fine). That would still stink, but it's better than 2'

Yes it is actually, he'll have to attack now since he most likely won't get that back on Contador in the ITT.

Good luck being agressive on Contador lol

Besides it don't matter either way since richi will get crushed in the last week. You're lucky actually since this bad luck won't matter in the GT.

Dumb UCI, just ***.

Well they applied their rules but the rule is ***.

And you know, you don't always have to apply your rules to the max, discretion is the word.

Reports going around that Porte was hit with the full 2' penalty. That's ridiculous....
I think it's called the rules. Why is following the rules as written ridiculous?

I don't mind their being rules, but I do mind it very much that they're enforced so randomly, this is really bad. If you want to make an example, give in an extra 10 seconds or something, but this is ridiculous
