Since Sky have a swimming coach giving them cycling lessons, you'd think they'd do better in the rain.

lol..not in the drizzle rain like that.. if it's flooding, then it will be an advantageous for Porte (water in the pool = flooding rain) :D

First question first. What happen with his private RV now? is he going him to pack his bag and move to the rest of population in the hotel? Hey you can't win the Giro but you still can cut the cost :D. or viviani moving in w/ kiryenka?

He hasn't had a bad day "leg-wise" yet and if carries that through to the end it will put to bed the "always has a bad day" bad smell that hangs around him.

This year it's his brain that bonked, instead of his body....

this! .. priceless.. :D Good one!

Has Porte made any comment on his performance?

I haven't seen anything from Porte. This was on their website.

"Of course we're not very lucky this Giro with Richie. When we looked at the profile some days seemed easier but we've actually had harder days on those "easy days". But we've achieved some good results. It seems that it is difficult for the overall now, but in the next few days of course we'll be there and we're going to try and fight for wins."

Seems to me like they are going to go for stage wins now....

Porte hasn't been giving interview all this time (part of his marginal gain). So we might probably hear only speculation from journalist.

He won the National TT, Paris-Nice, Catalunya and Trentino-Melinda. And stages in Down Under and Algarve. It's not like he is having a bad year.

But maybe he should just focus on smaller stage races instead. See if he can win ALL the week long races (except Eneco) on the calendar.

That plus 2-3 GT stages seems like a huge success to me.

Yep. He has won more this year than what the vast majority of riders will do for for their entire careers.

I honestly don't think he has what I takes to win a GT, but that doesn't mean he isn't one of the ten best riders in the world.

Then name 10 GC riders who are better. He is not in top 5, but he is definitely in top 10.

i agree that rp is a world-class one-week stage racer. if he just focused on that and never rode another gt, he could still have a stellar career.

GC riders in what? Grand Tours? I could name you 50 better than him, he has one top 10 finish, even that one thanks to breakaway! GC riders in one-week stage races, you're right. But that's not what you were saying, you said one of ten best riders in the world, well he is not. 10 better are Contador, Valverde, Froome, Quintana, Nibali, Cancellara, Kristoff, Cavendish, Kwiatkowski and Purito, for example. You might argue that he's in the top 10 of this season, then you're right, but by the end of the season, who knows, he might be out of it

I didn't mean that he was one of the top 10 riders overall, but in terms of GC.

GC rider = A guy who is good in one-week races and Grand Tours.

He hasn't shown much in GT's besides being a good domestique, you're right about that. But smaller races also count.

It would be interesting to see what he could do today but that stupid crash spoiled his chances. If he survives tomorrow and recovers in the rest day maybe he can still prove consistency over 3 weeks
TT'ing slower than Viviani and Mike Snow already proves the opposite though.

I really wanted Ritchie to win the Giro but he just isnt cut out for it.
