they should stop this lame #support thing
penalty was a joke, everyone knows why organizers gave it but it's time to move on

It was not ORGANIZERS, it was UCI commissaires.

Stop making clarifications. It doesn't help those trying to transform this situation into a deluge of mindless nationalistic diatribes. ;)
Oh, kudos to Richie for being impressively cool about this.

If Contador wins the Giro by 1min 59sec he should refuse the trophy.
I loved the moment where a pal helped another, even in a different team.
It's as bad as if the Orica rider had pumped the bellows while he re-brazed his front forks... I thought we'd moved on from that mentality.

Porte won't be within 3 minutes of Contador in the final GC. Don't worry.

The time difference at the end doesn't mater anymore. His strategy for this race seems to have been a defensive one with focus on ITT and the hope he can defend that hypothetical lead from the ITT to Milano. Now he's forced to attack,so he might as well crack and lose minutes.I don't agree that Contador winning the race with a small margin vs Porte should be questioned, his approach of the race is changed too after Porte time penalty. If he'll get enough time on Aru in the ITT,he'll be smart enough to defend the jersey and think about TDF.Anyway i think this time penalty kinda destroyed the show, but rules are rules, too bad that they enforce them only when they want to.

Because rules shouldn't apply to Sky riders?

Only if they are not stupid and misapplied.

But, this is not stupid.
What is stupid is not being professional enough to know about it and obey it. By the team and by the rider.

You tell yourself whatever story works for you. Riders never hold cars. draft the convoy, avoid time limit cut offs. Everyone knows the rules.

ow boy.. the rule has been applied to other team. Roman Sicard was penalized for the same infringement. But he went ahead won the race (forget the name of the race. just heard the commentator said it) . Good news is At least now we see that sky has to ride instead of waiting until ITT.

The spirit is good, no one denied it. Unfortunately, receiving a wheel from other team to a GC leader, of course it does have some unfair advantage. Time over time, we saw breakaway hope dash because they puncture at the wrong time and their team is not close enough to be there. GC leader is about time, so if he got wheel changed from other team, logically it will help him to get back to the peloton and not too loose too much time than if he has to wait for his car. That's unfair. IMHO.

I think it shouldn't apply to Aussies. You know, the mates helping mates exclusion.

Mere friendship shouldn't transcend the rules. Only Aussie mateship . How could they punish the greatest gesture of fairplay in decades: One Australian helping another cos they're mates.

Why?

Because the 2min penalty is daft, it's bureaucracy gone mad... about as as daft as the off-side rule in football

You're on a different planet here... I would say the same if it was Kwiatowski stopping to help a fellow Pole.

Apparently Froomey is having a blast w/ his TDF team. Didn't see any tweet of support for his buddy Porte. If he can tweet, he has access to the web too.

Seems like there are two people on the planet who thought the wheel-change was healthy.... so I'm not the last remaining dinosaur after all.

Simon Clarke's offer of help wasn't ethically or morally questionable and is the kind of behaviour to be applauded.

As long as Bertie drops Porte and proves himself better in the mountains then the time gap is irrelevant.

Bertie has a tour to race so why should he waste energy.

Are you able to write a single post without kicking Porte or Froome?

Only Atapuma of the 22 riders who are within 10 minutes of the GC lost more time in the crash than Porte and Koing. Not sure what Eisel is up to in this Giro as road captain. He's been a disaster.
Nooooooo Puma :(
sorry, carry on. By the way I think it's sad Porte more or less gave up :( But I don't blame him
