In 2013, he cracked the day after the first MTF on which he was second only to Froome but he was pretty good again later on, so it seems to be more of a problem of immediately recovering from a hard day in the mountains, rather than the accumulated fatigue.

I agree with this. After a hard day he doesn't recover, but then his best gets progressively worse as the race goes on and has to take days off, effectively, or pull out, else he'll have a very bad day.

Contador was 2nd to froome that stage, i think you mixed up stages. In the last one he was 2nd to froome. On saterday he cracked then?

Contador was 2nd to froome that stage, i think you mixed up stages. In the last one he was 2nd to froome. On saterday he cracked then?

I think he is referring to the Ax-3-Domaines stage..

Does not matter. It is still just a one-week race and his result from this race does not mean anything in regards to TdF.

Yea the dauphine is completely irrelevant to the Tour. It's not like 3 of the last 4 TdFs have been won by the winner of the dauphine that year or anything

Again, quite irrelevant. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I mean, how can you even compare Wigo or Froome with TLMRP? It's like comparing a Porche with F1

BTW I think Talansky is a much better comparison as he is also a mental patient

correction: In Porte's case, it is 50/50 between his head and his body.

Contador was incredible today. To attack at the bottom of the Hors Cat, he's obviously recovered from yesterday but I think they're all going to pay for it tomorrow because it's another hard stage," Porte said.

"It was more the legs. It was no surprise that they're always going to go for it in the finish and I was struggling a bit. It was such a hard day. There was never an easy moment and it's good to get that one done."

"He can still have a bad day too, but as a unit they were incredible today, people were throwing everything at them and I think those guys are going to pay for it tomorrow because today was a hard day."

Any guess as to how he's going to fare tomorrow? Falling further behind relative to Froome, Contador and Martin would be worrying.

Contador, Froome and the whole sky team will pay tomorrow for their hard day today. Only Porte will be fresh tomorrow, after that extrem hard day for him today. It's Porte logic

And I agree. Porte is likeliest to get in the podium than any other rider (apart from the top 3. I'd include Nibali, in case he didn't ride il Giro). However, I believe he's the least likely rider to get in the top 5, if we consider the likes of Aru, Nibali, Pinot and a couple more riders.

That's a lot of faith in a rider whose past results indicate a top 15 would be a huge accomplishment.
