Richie Porte - what do we know about him?

Well today was pretty ridiculous. While the pit bull attacked way too many times for no good reason, which left him exposed, Porte's ride was a bit too over the top, especially given how last minute it was.

Oh, wait, it is just he trains more scientifically than everyone else.

If Menchov is doping with all the Rasmussen/Rabo stuff hitting the fan, he's an idiot. If Scarponi is doping after CONI and team suspensions, he's an idiot too.

That's the big problem: most riders are idiots, or at least not among the sharpest knives in the drawer. Many of them just want to win.

Totally agree with this.....Porte won because of tactics and experience.

I thought Sky would miss Yates this year, but so far, when it has mattered, Froome and Porte have timed their attacks perfectly.
Was it Induran last year who chided Contador for attacking too often?
Wait, attack once, and make it count!

He probably thought he was extremely strong, and could get a nice buffer for the final ITT. Maybe he was naive in thinking that Sky wouldn't up their sham this year, but I can't really blame him for that.

Well JV tells him Sky are clean and evidence that you can win clean. JV rates Talansky as one of the brightest young talents in the sport. Poor guy thought he could just ride away from everyone like his clean idols Chris Froome and Richie Porte do.

Yup, that must take some thinking about - about a thousand days, I believe

Sorry, he won because he was much, much, much stronger than anyone around. He had time to look around and he few past his competitors like they were standing still. It was horsepowers that caused him to go fast, not because he was so smart.

This. True.

The speed in which he went past Menchov was insane. Menchov was gaining time as well! and still finished second. Porte smashed the field with power. Your tactics will always be good when you 50w more then anyone else.

but to use "little" as pejorative aint fair.

and this comes from p'raps the biggest troll on here. Susan? Susan, present?

edit:

You can't dope with the Passport. It's wiped out doping. Cycling is more humane.

Cycling has changed. The new younger generation don't dope.

Doping was 10-15 years ago. The sport has moved on.

Sorry to correct you, but although the passport reduced doping it is obviously the UCI hotline that has eradicated doping from cycling.

They should change it in Big Dopey Ritchie Going All The Way To The SKY. Chips, he already is there.

Well, I disagree: I think he timed it perfectly, waited for Talansky to attack and then went over him......Talansky was the only rider who could have gone with him, but he couldn't right then because he'd just launched an attack himself.

Then all the others waited to see who was going to close it down, waiting for the yellow jersey to do it, and no one volunteered until it was way too late. The fact that they couldn't catch Menchov shows how disorganised they were.

May also have been because Porte was strongest, but races are not always won by the strongest.

And I don't mind the adjective little, to me its a term of endearment, especially for a cyclist:)

Guess y are new to cycling? Ever did a race yourself?

Sky BS.

Porte did the same as Talansky et the rest, and much much more at the demarree.

33 seconds in 1000 metres, how about that.

Sorry: what is demarree? (My racing was indeed limited, and very much was rather than is, but I can still have an opinion)

33 seconds in 1 km is easy if no one behind is trying...how much did he gain over Menchov....15 secs???

Ah, but that was not the case, was it?
