Only 6% slower than the Juniors. And then they have the audacity to complain their price money is lesser than those of the elite men..

Amazing win for Lizzie. She looked to be the strongest on that final lap all the way from Libby Hill. Pretty happy to see Megan Guarnier up there too.

One of the best top10s I've seen.

1. ARMITSTEAD Elizabeth
2. VAN DER BREGGEN Anna
3. GUARNIER Megan
4. LONGO BORGHINI Elisa
5. JOHANSSON Emma
6. FERRAND PREVOT Pauline
7. NIEWIADOMA Katarzyna
8. AMIALIUSIK Alena
9. NEFF Jolanda
10. VAN DIJK Ellen

I have to agree. What a shame. As much as I wish the woman's cycling would get more TV time, this race was almost unwatchable and I wish they would show the juniors instead.

9 person break completely wasted the opportunity and if there was not for the Polish girls attacking, the race would be completely dull.

Really hoping for heavy rain and a completely different race tomorrow.

The exception to make the rule? 90% of women's races are more exciting than men's. They could have shown both Juniors and the ladies, it's not like they chose one over the other.

Race times have nothing to do with the argument, unless you think overall strength determines pay distribution.
If so, then I'm going to have to politely call you out and suggest that perhaps your off the cuff remark is misguided at best.

Maybe you missed the part where the Dutch collectively chased their own teammate down. Yes, the break started looking around way too early, but, meanwhile team members were closing the gap on their teammate.

The WC very, very typically is rather boring. There is only one prize at the very end.

I saw the whole thing. There were a few moments when the peloton got split, and I was hoping they will stay away but as always, for some unknown reason, nobody is doing any work and there was no commitment.

I just don't get it, if you are not a sprinter and know that you can't get away on the final climbs, why wouldn't you work hard to keep the breakaway alive and get a respectful result?

6-7 people up the road with a workable lead and suddenly "the math" changes. That's my fascination with cycling in a nutshell!!!!

CN should run a story on the Dutch running down their own rider, then a total finish line fail.

I would not write it like this, but, CN mentions the Dutch and Germans running down their own teammates in the lead break:

If I were in that break and chased down by my own team AND DIDN'T COME CLOSE to podium, then that's just depressing. Again, huuuuuge WTF moment.

The course softens the field, but not brutal enough. A light rain will discourage a couple of riders, but meh...

My gut feeling is there will be some negative stuff on the climbs in the Men's field to try to make a break.

I need to find another channel than Eurosport for tomorrow.

Kirby nearly ruined the excitement of the sprint for me.

Look for the official feed from the UCI. The Brits do a good job. You'll need to proxy it with a vpn, but worth it.

I'll do that for sure.
With the Richmond app for iOS it's not geo-restricted.

This commentary in Australia is **** bias and bordering on pathetic.

What is with Australian commentators and their bias towards riders?

Anyone but an Australian to win please. This is disgusting.

Matt Keenan is good, but McKenzie and in particular the female they are commentating with are bias as ****.
Couldn't agree more. The Bates lady bagged Lizzie Armistead throughout the race. Glad she stuck it to her at the end. What happened to the Australians who "had it in the bag" I believe were the commentators words?

I thought that was an universal thing. The Danish commentators are always very biased as well.

Yeah, you'd have thought 10K out that the break had it but they seemed to lose commitment. The BBC commentators felt that Pieters was clinging on and maybe that message was sent back. The big losers really were the Aussies with two riders up front.

Pieters clearly wasn't strong enough to win. Besides, an Australian and an Italian woman broke away from the front group. Chasing them increased their chances, Van der Breggen just missed out for the win. I doubt Pieters would have podiumed.

Its all about supply and demand, it is a fact that more people want to watch the men race then the women and there for they deserve higher payment. Woman footballers also cant demand the same payment as their male collegues as simply their stadiums do not fill, they arent watched much on TV and it is way less interesting for sponsors. Besides that it is harder to make it to the top as a men in (cycling) sport as much more boys start cycling in comparison to girls. You can easily see this by that in woman racing their is much less specialism and you find the same top riders on all most all courses (flat, hills, itt, mountain, cobbles).
I do agree that something should/can be done as if you broadcast more woman cycling there is also a bigger chance more girls pick up the sport, = more quality in the long run = more interesting to watch = more money available. But at the moment they do not deserve equal payment imo.

I get the supply and demand argument, but it is a shame that women's cycling isn't more popular. The races are usually much more fun to watch than the men.

Yesterday was great, lots of attacks and the climbs were tough enough to make it selective for the ladies, with only 8 riders in the front group at the end. I'm expecting a much bigger bunch at the end today, but maybe an attacker can do something.

It's all very nice to try to promote women's cycling by making it the same length but, whilst of course I think women need more equality in cycling, they are simply not as physically capable as the men. There's no ways women would be able to competitively race over 240km

............seeing women run ultra marathons i'm not so sure....................

problem comes that v mens events there is just not equal depth of quality

Mark L

That depth will come with better sponsorship and opportunities for female cyclists to earn a living. That comes from increased exposure and televised women's races among other things. We're moving slowly in that direction,

Wait what? almost unwatchable? why?

This race was better than 99% of the men races. Attacks all over the place, with one lap to go a break one minute ahead, no-one was chasing. Still everybody came together and a great sprint in the end.
