the reason savio is bashing rujano is because he has nothing to lose. whatever was going to happen rujano's contract was going to end on june 1 2012

Where do you think he might end up after that? Caja? Andalucia? Coldeportes? BMC (lol)?

But Savio doesn't want or hope to extend it?

rujano didn't want to extend it no matter what already at the beginning of the year. that's also why he got no support basically except from friends like ochoa and de marchi where they could. the venezuelan federation started to sponsor the team but again they chose gil and ubeto, that are no friends of rujano unlike medina who was his liutenant in colombia 2009 win. with savio it's like a double ended sword. he knows deep inside he is the guy that could win the giro, but also he doesn;t like rujano at all and vice versa. going back to 2006. like a marriage made in hell. savio has said numerous times after 2006 that he never even wanted to talk to rujano again. rujano on the other hand has had very bad advisors and managers

Not like he had too much (any) success there his first time around. But yet again, neither has Cobo

Yep rujano is always the victim, obviously a saint to work with, curious why he has so much trouble.

Rode Romandie, Murcia. Has a grand total of 5 CQ points.
However, to be fair at this point last season he had only 65 CQ points

he didn't have any problems with caisse d'epargne, who wanted to extend him and they wanted him back again in 2010 and 2011, but he went back to venezuela first and then choose instead for money, for opportunities with androni. his first good choice in years

Well, this has pretty much always been the case with him though. 2007 was really the only season he's gotten some early season results

He will be invisible til the Tour at the very earliest. Even 2008 when he had a good Tour he was nowhere before then

cobo won't work for valverde. that's 100%. he will either be world class at the tour or retire anonymously.

if he doesn't get cold no. he got cold in the downhil and his body blocked he said. same happened to him in giro 2006 when he even had to retire.

he would indeed be much better suited for the vuelta and tour though
Ryo, at some point you have to stop the excuses for Rujano. You are going to have to accept that he was just not good enough.

Remember there are other aspects of cycling that could have worked for Rujano in the past that he might not have right now. Who knows? Nobody knows.

Having said that, it would be fun if his form came back for the remaining of the Giro. It would make for a fun Giro.

Ryo, in case Rujano was interested in the Vuelta at all (I know he isn't but for the sake of the argument), do you think it would suit him because of the good weather and straight forward racing (MTFs, no tricky descents or terrain for ambushes), or it wouldn't because it wouldn't be a tough enough course to make a difference and put time on other climbers who might be closer to his level on easy mountain stages?

the vuelta this year is incredibly hard and it's mostly very hot and regulated race. either big mountains or flat stages

But they're mostly short stages, where having a big engine isn't so important, and many are practically only the MTF and little else (some have minor climbs before that, few have several serious climbs in succession). It's hard because it'll be a MTF overdose, but that doesn't necessarily mean lesser riders in good form couldn't keep up, which IMO is harder on monster stages like the Giro has.

longer stages are better yes but look at grossglockner last year. one real mtf in the stage, which was also short stage and he was very good

Cobo said before the season he isn't going to do big until the tour because he want's to peak fully for both the tour and vuelta
