Lanark said:I wouldn't discount Duarte so quickly. Sure, with all the ridiculous hype here it's almost hard to take a South-American rider seriously, but that guy is insanely talented, has quickly adapted to the Euopean pro peloton, doesn't have most of the usual Colombian problems (can handle a hard-man's stage like today, not a terrible bike handler), and is a really good climber. If he doesn't attack on inopportune moments, he could be in the mix for a long time. Of course, I don't know how he can handle 3 weeks, but he does have a lot of potential.
will10 said:I expect Duarte to have at least one bad day on a big stage this Giro, but I agree with a lot of what you've said. I suspect a lot more than hardcore cycling fans like most on this forum will know Duarte's name by the end of this Giro
will10 said:He got in breaks on the big mountain stage and got a lot of freedom cos no-one had any idea who he was. They do now, even if the chances of him getting anywhere near the podium are slim, they won't gift him 5 minutes back in a break.
LukeSchmid said:If Rujano wins from here it is going to be brilliant to watch, but I cannot see it happening. I hope he tries to do it not just go for stage wins

Libertine Seguros said:Everybody knew who Emanuele Sella was in 2008 (he was that guy who always went off like a maniac at the start of every final mountain, only to run out of gas and get caught). He'd won stages and finished in the top 10 of the Giro.
They still let him get in the break more than once in the first week, and after he lost 17 minutes in a crash in a transition stage, he promptly won most of that back on Pampeago. The day after, he was only 7 minutes back on GC. They still let him go in the break, and he took another 2-3 minutes back.
Ryo Hazuki said:you obvously didn't see those 90s tours of virenque because he was never close to winning the tour. so he attacked and went for kom as well. still great rider but not comparable to a rider today fully focussed on winning a gt.
jens_attacks said:sella was like 26 minutes behind before pampeago, finished il giro at 4.crazy things happen all the time.it's not over.
Ryo Hazuki said:nobody knows. on top of the climb he was few seconds behind pozzovivo who ended up front. but pozzo had helpers and rujano none...
craig1985 said:I reckon he'll be a good bet for stage 7, the first MTF of the race, and none of the GC favourites will want the pink jersey so early in the race, and might get some freedom from Contador, Nibali etc.
Timmy-loves-Rabo said:regardless of helpers, 5 minutes is pretty poor if he didn't puncture or crash...
K-0tic said:He's just not the man for the GC but perhaps he can do a stage win or so. Should be enough opportunities for him. But GC? No , never expected him to do so.
