Scheldeprijs 2024: 3/4 The least crash-prone big one-day race this week

It can‘t be true that this race does not have a thread!!! :(

The profile is flat, the favorites are fat, it‘s time for the most anticipated day of the year with what I refuse to call a lesser known race.
The race has been very light on the crashes it‘s been known for recently, and if nothing crazy happens this should be between Philipsen and Merlier (and maybe a surprise Dutchman or two).
Rain is possible earlier in the race and the southwesterly winds make echelons a strong possibility.

Fear that the rain is coming too early (all night and morning, way less chance in the afternoon) and the wind too late (will pick up around 4 in the afternoon) to make this a hard race.

40 seconds between the first two echelons already, so odds are that this was the decisive split. Although G1 could fracture a second time...

But first echelon is more than 50 riders, it either has to split again or everything will come back together later. Probably not a lot of good sprinters dropped.

Apparently Welsford in group 2.
