Respect to that kid! :D
Danish commentators were being all why isn't he attacking?
Oh! That would be why!

He wanted to, but he couldn't spot the signs that showed the remaining distance :).

Funnily enough as I logged onto the forum a minute ago I was certain of three things:
...
2. There would be a Sep fans thread.
...

What has that got to do with anything?

The thread was already there. It wasn't created because of what happened today...

So in the end you could indeed be certain it existed, because it already did for 10 months (I did not use any rocket science to come to this conclusion).

I think riding for Garmin a season or two will help his career immensely. He's a domestique now, but he's learning the trade in a very strong classics team (yeah, not debating this here). He doesn't need to be hasty.

That said, I like him a lot.

I don't think he's a domestique anymore for the classics :)

In fact, I'm 100% sure he stayed for Garmin because he had the chance to be leader there. In Quick Step he would have been a domestique for Boonen.

Yeah, Garmin is better than QST for him, but it's easy to say it now. in 2011 i was frustrated that he chose Garmin over QST (and even mentioned it on the first page of this thread) but back then it was definitely the other Gamin and the other QST. One thing for sure - he stayed with Garmin and it paid off for him today, that's good.

He is still youngish too, no need for him to be in a rush to be undisputed leader.. Garmin seems to have worked for him and they will have to take him very seriously now.

Watching the end of Omloop today, I thought "that Garmin dude seems at times to be test attacking Booned and Flecha to see how much strength they have left". So maybe Boonen mistimed the sprint a bit, but maybe it was also a little bit Vanmarcke knowing what he could do at that moment. Vanmarcke's for real.

Well, when I wrote that I wasn't expecting Hushovd to leave and Haussler to be so average one year later, so it made sense at the time :D

When you see him ride today you forget he's only 23. Great progression he's making. I wonder what he can do in +250km classics

Well he already got 20th in Roubaix last year after doing a load of work.
Finished Ronde in in the 60s in his last year with Topsport, DNF last year.

He whittled down everyone/ and tore Boonens' stupid sprint tactics. By far the strongest rider today. Hopefully he can go well at RvV/ P-R. What does everyone think suits him more ( i think he was impressive on the Bergs today but he looked good on the flats as well )???

His cycling news interview is pretty funny - with an amusing mix of respect and rivalry towards Boonen, a declaration that cobbles are the only thing he's good at, and a request to Garmin that he be considered a leader rather than a domestique.

I think we can take it for granted that he'll be co-leader in all of the cobbled races from here on in. He looked absolutely awesome today.

What a great win!
I'm happy to see him take the win today and think he rode a very smart and tactical race to his strengths! He played quite well against Boonen in the last few k's.

Seems as if he has everything it takes to become a classics star.
Anyone who can declare that he is going to take the win like he did and then make good on it surely gets my respect! Chapeau to him. :)

If he's chosen for MSR, we'll see.
