I am planning on getting banned just before I go on holidays!!!

They dont just ban anybody here you know, you have to earn it.

Simply being annoying and acting like an adult with learning difficulties isn't enough.. we need more.

No more. Moondance got banned for using swearwords in a post. He was merely paraphrasing scarface. He was not absuing any other posters or for that matter, anybody.

I got a warning for using the f word, again, against no body.

I personaly dont mind a no swear words rule so long as we know about it but it seems a no swearing rule is now in place.

this is part of what i have been saying. there are rules but they are buried where nobody knows where they are.

Well, if you look at the opening page of this very subforum, you might see among the stickies:

Sticky Thread Sticky: Forum Rules & Guidelines

;)

Susan

which is only any use if you come all the way to the bottom of the forum, and then look in forum rules. How many people really venture this far down? Most people use the road forum, general and thats it.
Im sure there is somewhere more obvious for them. Most users arent aware the rules are here.

youd have to a bit anal to join a forum and before posting think to yourself "ooh, i wonder what the rules are around here, im going to go to about the forum, find the rules and read them before i post"

Well, considering how often you have posted in this subforum, I thought you ought to have seen them.

Personally, I always read in a forum for a long time before I join it. That gives me a feel of what is and is not accepted.

Why must everyone have every little detail spelled out? Why isn't basic consideration for other people isn't enough?

I'm not trying to tell anyone to leave, but no one is forced to participate here. If you don't like how we play, go find another playground.

But when you join the forum (or even log on) you get a post giving a general outline of what is or is not acceptable.

I don't see why members would then have to be reminded of what they are but even then in the racing forum there is a "Think before you post" sticky.

I have seen them (after my attention was drawn to them). I think you are misunderstanding me. My point is, most forum members have not seen them and dont even know they are here written down.

Why not add the forum rules to the think before you post thread, and change its name to think before you post/forum rules?

at least them people may see them.

Im not arguing this for me, im trying to help you guys. At the moment anyone who gets a warning can pretty much plead ignorance of the rules. Telling them, why didnt you hunt to the bottom of the forum for the rules doesnt wash.

i dont, i even have just logged off and on again to see if i did.

they manage to put survey pop ups easy enough, it wouldnt be hard to put a pop up for a day or two drawing peoples attention to the new and more often enforced rules.

people have got away with blue murder for ages around here, now the rules have been toughened but they dont know them. you cant blame people for getting warnings and bans recently.

I think your taking this a tad too far dim. Most of the stuff is common sence. Like dont post pornography. Dont spam. DOnt reveal information about other posters. Dont tell a moderator to _ off when they give you a warning:rolleyes:

As for the rest you get a warning before you get banned if you havent seen the rules. I didnt know there was a no swearing rule. I didnt see the rules. So when i swore did i get kicked off?
No i got a warning. And now i know not to do it.

pretty simple really.

I totally agree.
Why do we need rules to tell us how to behave? This isn't a snug in some bar - it's a public forum and needs to be moderated with a larger viewpoint in mind.

And just to my earlier post that you quoted - "Its the abuse of of other posters that has got some banned, not the profanities themselves." - that was in response to InnerPeaces claim that posters were getting banned for profanities alone.
I did qualify that with Moondances ban which was for excessive and unnecessary use - which I did not see - but if other members here accepts that it was OTT then it crossed the line not only of the mods but of general acceptance.

i agree we shouldnt need rules, but for instance, for the last year nothing has been done about people swearing, (which i disagreed with), but now people are being given short bans not realising that the rules have now got tougher thats all. I dont care if people get banned for swearing, i think they should, but they should at least know it is now against the rules.

I think basically for months people have been able to get away with all sorts, now the rules are tougher there will be a bedding in period where a few people get punished.

Frankly i dont give a monkeys either way i just think things should be fair and burying the new rules where nobody can find them isnt particularly helpful.

im bored now :D

Also - I asked for my account to be deleted about a month ago? What's up with that? Can it PLEASE be deleted? Otherwise, I might just try and get myself banned. It seems voluntarily asking for your account to be deleted is not extreme enough to ignite action ;-)

By the way, I do like reading this forum as the majority here are knowledgable contributors, but it's painful to know that i'm signed up here still, and a little embarassing when I tell my mates that i'm signed up here - if I could somehow self-terminate this account I would

Ask and ye shall receive (I had ignored your earlier request for this as it was pretty sad)

I just got warned for writing an "f" followed by an 'ing. Not the word mind you. Nor did I circumvent the filters. I was told that it is the same as writing the actual word. Sorry, but that is simply ridiculous. If this is representative of the manner by which moderators will now moderate this forum, then you can have the ****ing forum because that is absolutely ridiculous.

It seems that this must be a ruling from a higher power thinking about commercial interests. Otherwise, I've never been on a forum which is so anal about every single word which may be considered remotely offensive.

I'd love to get a warning for circumventing the word filter by saying:

TFF, you were temporarily suspended for blatantly swearing in a post. As I pointed out privately via pm, you have then immediately chosen to add the term you mentioned into one of your first posts upon returning from that suspension. Typing what you typed VERY clearly is designed to get past the language filter.

Sorry, but I simply fail to see what the problem is.

I must be honest, I hardly realised this place existed.
I tend to stick to areas of interest and only popped in when I heard Moondance had been sidelined.
I certainly wouldn't bother to carry out an extensive search for a set of rules, that I know would annoy me.
I try to stick to my own social guidelines and hope that they suffice.
If not, I'd simply go elsewhere.

Seems to me from what I can gather, without having seen any of the offending post language, that suspensions are being handed out for inferred content that triggers the rules, as well as actual obscene language that contravenes the rules.

In which case, wouldn't the language filter be unfit for purpose?

so would i receive a warning for bypassing the censor to talk about this fellow in the movie thread perhaps?

2w55o28

ps. i had to work out how to bypass the censor by redirecting the link via tinyurl to even get the picture up

this post is a joke by the way, not in any way intended to recieve a warning or anything.

This really is getting a little rediculous. This is a forum not a freaking Sunday School class.

If they are going to ban people for swearing then the least they could do is fix their ridiculous word filter so it does not include words that can be commonly heard on regular TV. It is difficult to even discuss saddle recommendations because most of the words that describe the part of the anatomy that sits on the saddle are banned. I said it before that the word filter is so restrictive that no one has any respect for it.

I don't buy into the "think of the children" argument either. Has anyone making that stupid case ever spent any time around modern children? The experience is enough to make 2 Live Crew blush. It is not the 1950's anymore.

Even more ridiculous is that they are concentrating on simple words while I barely read The Clinic threads anymore because of the non-stop idiocy of flicker, Polish, and the people who feel obligated to respond to every one of their moronic posts as though it were serious. Often entire pages are a waste of time. BPC was bad enough because he continually posted things that were just outright lies or distortions. People felt the need to set the record straight. But every flicker and Polish post is written with sole goal of goading people into responding to their stupidity. I cannot remember anything of value that either has ever written.

People understand your point TSF. They are just not discussing your off topic point with you in this thread which is about TFF. Feel free to start your discussion in its own thread or if you must, add it to the end of the Moderators thread.

Its not needed. I am a huge fan of English comedy and the British sense of humour.

The actual problem, I'm afraid, is that you are simply not very funny.

sorry. :p

I am not going to ask for my account to be deleted, but I am going to stop posting for the most part. I have not had the time to write any quality posts in a long while--only occasional sniping--and I am getting tired of being warned for being over the line, even when something is obviously a joke. Having posts edited without any trace they were edited makes it worse; it is like an Orwellian state where there is no trace that anything used to be different than it currently is. I really don't see the point of posting when you cannot be yourself.

Beyond that I am philosophically opposed to modern media that is afraid to offend anyone, no matter how unreasonable those who claim to be offended are. Some pantywaist the other week was complaining about the subject of a thread being "Radio Shack Crying About Lombardia." You cannot win with these people; they will always find something to feign tears about. Communication that lacks any hard edges is like food with spice. It is bland pap that turns people's brains to mush, and ultimately I just don't find it very fun to participate in colorless conversation.
