I thought this was a pretty shocking quote:

Matthew Lloyd from Davitamon-Lotto was in Armstrong's group and witnessed that last crash. "Unfortunately, Lance crashed, there were again lots of crashes today," he said post-race. "Euskaltel really needs to learn how to ride bikes. It's just shocking. I don't know whether that's controversial or not, but I don't care. They've probably caused every crash in this race... It's really unfortunate for Lance because he wanted to finish this Tour de France in style, and now..."

Why is it that Anglo riders seem to come out with more idiotic quotes than the rest of the peloton?

I think Anglos in general are more judgmental people. They see everything in terms of rules and correct behaviours. You see that in the fan forums as well.

He may have a point though. He was there.

I liked watching him get dropped so much, I just watched it again so I could hear him get dropped with a Bob Roll soundtrack. Funny, you can tell that they taped this after the stage as Bob is being very restrained in his comments. Gotta suck when you disrespected every other rider in the race except LA and AC. Two man race...yea Bob, two man race:rolleyes:

Not to hijack the thread... But Roll so totally sucks as a commentator. Even when he's not raving about Armstrong, he's boring to listen to. Yea Phil and Paul crack some whoppers but they do sound excited while they commentate.

If Roll is doing voice overs after the stage, why not record the track at the same time as Phil and Paul. Maybe Bob could get excited about something besides whatever Lance is doing.

You must be like me. I don't like seeing riders disrespected.

Watching AC getting dropped at the end repeatedly seems a bit OTT though.

Armstrong's key crash was a single person crash. No Euskie to blame there. He binned it on a roundabout, and admitted it himself. Not bad luck- just poor bike handling in ideal conditions. His handling hasn't been what it used to be.

But he has run out of the luck he had in previous years. The holdup on the top of Les Gets would have been the last frustration to a terrible day. He's usually taking advantage of other people crashing, and now the boot's on the other foot. In public at least, he's being very gracious about it, which is nice to see.

As for Lloyd's comments - I'm in two minds. They are involved in a lot of crashes, and the Les Gets incident was inexcusable. But one had better be sure to be well away from a glasshouse before picking up a brick.

I went into this race hating on Lance hoping for all that has happened to him. But somehow I have more respect for him now than before

Lots of fans did not watch and listen to Armstrong interviews about the crash. He said it was a simple mistake. Tried to pedal through the corner..did a mini bunny hop-high side and rolled a tire. His mind was just not on the task. I feel bad because his physical prep work looked good..mentally I think he reduced the race to hard and easy parts too quickly and as was shown going through routine roads proved much harder than matching pedal strokes with Andy and Alberto on the climbs. It's the little things that get you. All the commentary about MTB handling skills are a little overblown..minus the Beloki brush Armstrong has been on the pavement during his"super bike handler" exploits.

A nondescript Shack servant spouting off and slagging Astana, Sky ,Garmin basically.

Paulinho is an idiot.

All of these guys are in awe of Armstrong. I think they would lose a limb for him if asked. Add to that the bond between Bruyneel and Armstrong and it's likely that it effects Bruyneel's decision making on occasion. They just feel fortunate to be on the same team with him and to ride for him. Contador likely felt the same prior to the Armstrong's announcement of his return to the sport. He knew the bond that existed and thus saw the writing on the wall.

This has all been bantered about since the beginning of the 2009 season. Contador was less than willing to simply fall in line unlike Kloden, Leipheimer and Horner. Add to the already present animosity that Armstrong held towards Contador that was likely heightened when he crashed in a race that he had no prior plans on taking part before Bruyneel gave in to Contador's wishes that he and Armstrong race together prior to the Tour.

As was stated earlier, the current Shack riders are all personalities that are more than willing to be "slaves" to the Armstrong dream of winning #8.

I couldn't agree with you more. What's really interesting is read the venom that many Lance lovers have for Contador simply because he didn't fall in line. If you ask them why they don't like Contador, the response is "He's a punk" or something along those lines. They fully expected AC to comply to Lance's wishes during last year's TdF.
