Like I said in the GreenEDGE thread that I turned up to our Wednesday night crit and in line to sign up, I realise that I'm standing next to Michael Albasini and Robbie McEwen was just in front of him. The good thing about living here is that in the off season that a lot of big names turn up.

I said hello. At first I thought it was somebody wearing HTC kit and helmet and then I looked on the sleeves and it had Albasini's name on it.

Sounds good that you saw them. Are there any other Aussie cyclists based on the GC other than McEwan???

Jonathan Cantwell is one. I've done a few races with him, I'm busting my *** to hold a wheel and he is lolling around in the small chain ring. ****.

EDIT: Mat Hayman has made appearances up here, Nick Gates who is a DS for Saxo Bank resides here and last year he took out one of my team mates in a crash (broken collarbone, shoulder, it wasn't pretty), and I know Jack Bobridge has considered buying a house here.

LOL. I've had the same experience trying to hold Robbie's wheel up Springbrook on the Green Jersey Ride. I guess 'Robbie can't climb' is a relative statement!

I don't suppose racing to get to class in time counts...:p

I don't think I'd be very good at racing anyway...

Our 46 year old sprinter used to beat Cantwell pretty regularly...:D

(I would guess after Cantwell rode into the "training" race with about 6 hours in his legs.....)

He would occaisionally get beaten at Balmoral, here in Brisbane too.

After riding most of the way from the Gold Coast to Brisbane....

I didn't see him beaten this year, maybe once in a Prime. The last race I saw him in at Balmoral he won with a seated sprint, mouth shut, breathing through his nose while everyone else was hammer and tongs gasping for breath.

Of course he did miss the break in the Vault Crit, but so did Michael Matthews. I'm not sure that counts as getting beaten though?

so i made up my mind and since there are no road races or anything resembling races on the road around here i will do a couple of MTB circuits. they aren't really races but its still pretty cool to ride a 50k long course on some very beautiful places on the mountains with a few hundred people alongside and with some very tough terrain to spice things up.

first one is on the 25th of march!!!! i have my exams until middle of February and when they end i will have to go out training a lot to build up my resistance a bit

also here are some pics from last years circuit, the route should be fairly similar

I don't remember him getting beaten this year either, but PT and a few other guys (but not me!) gave him a run for his money a few times. It's not always fun when he turns up at Murrarie because so many people forget to race and just mark him, then they wonder what just happened when he tears them to bits on the bell lap :p

well i didn't think of the word event so race was the next in line, but you are right its not a race, just a simple event for fun, which still is a nice challenge :)
