that is not a race, that is a charity ride.

If there was a guy on a message board who had threatened to kill those who he disagreed with would you post your photo?

No, it's a race.

And I figured I'd get this response from the usual suspects, non of whom evidently have ever raced. Where's your pic Bro? RR? TFF>

Which Fed do you have a license with? Not a US one as you are not allowed to race wearing the jersey of a team you are not on. You are also not allowed to race with a jersey that does not cover your shoulders.

Many feds have swishy standards. You can't race with a team/club that's not on your paperwork. Once is not on anybody's license in the US. The beater is the sleeveless jersey. All of our other endurance athletes have feds that allow sleeveless unis we do not. It's a UCI thing. Love to see most of the bunch in wife beaters and g-bangs on.What a money saver g-string shorts

Where I live at least, you can turn up to races wearing whatever kit you like, but I prefer to wear my club kit when I race. Mind you these are just Cat 3 type crits so it doesn't matter too much.

FTR there are no current photos of me racing.

There's an occasional need for anonymity while still active as a racer. While I don't agree with everything said by those you are stalking you should be able to figure out why they wouldn't want their picture out for circulation, regardless of current racing status.

The best ever is when a guy who wins or places wearing a Sky,Once,Rock(any pro colors) outfit has his license challenged. You can't wear a pro kit or a sponsor that is not affiliated with your licensed club without getting DQ'd. You are right it never matters unless you win. Raise your arms with a jersey that says Avis when you are sponsored by Hertz. If the race has got 10 people you will get your lic pulled.US licenses have an affiliated club if you switch you have to let the fed know...or don't get any results. Like a drug/**** test no body cares if you are not winning

The races I do are cat 3 crits, and unless you are part of a team, then it really doesn't matter. I can do a race this Sunday and wear my Liquigas kit and win, and nobody will bat an eyelid. But I don't, and I wear my my club colours since I'm a member of them and therefore feel I should wear them when I race no matter what. To me I'm representing and promoting my club, and when I do any long rides/sportives etc., I always wear them.

I have never heard of a case of somebody having their licence pulled. I mean guys have DQ'd for moving off their line in a sprint or riding on the back of a higher grade they are not in, they also get DQ'd.

A mate of mine wears the colours of the bank that he works for, but then he has sponsored races for the two clubs on the GC, so I guess that is OK (and FTR he has won more then me).

Plenty of races don't enforce these rules in UK and Australia.
The fat boy might really have been in a race

More than one. Licensed by USA cycling. I have a Ferrari kit I'm fond of too. I'm about 205 to 210 in that pic and I'm 6'2". It's why I could only do flat relatively short crits. I never finished last and never dropped out. I rode cat 3, always against much younger guys. About the time I figured I'd start riding age class I hit a dog on hard training ride and decided I couldn't handle the risk any longer. I was 57 by then.
I also have a motorcycle I occasionally drag race.
I have great admiration for the guys I know that spend their summers traveling the state riding crits. Some are really good racers and tough as nails.

No photo's but did a couple of pretty fast masters crits in Brea, California today. The first race of the year is always an eye-opener. Hard to believe how many blazing fast old men there are out here. No results, just glad to hang on.

I'm a little confused here. Are you saying you're the guy in the Once jersey? And at 57, racing in non-USCF races and keeping up with Cat 3 (effective) racers?

ok jesus. in my profile, it is me racing. up mammoth mtn at about 9000 ft.
the guy next to me is antoine gonzalez. he raced for 'la sheriff's' i was with
'paramount' at that time. the finish was at 10300 ft. if you can enlarge the
photo, the background has snow on the mountains. we started in 'bishop'.
only 5300 ft of climbing. but all above 5000 ft. and i did that race more than once.;) just trying show i "usedtbefast'...:)

Yeah I will do my first of the season next weekend and I haven't raced since August. Fully expecting to suffer.

What always surprises me is how fast we corner in the crits. My first three laps of a new season I'm always freaked out but then I just go on autopilot because I've done so many crits.

Yeah but you are doing the RVV sportive. Either way, whatever they do won't trump that experience.

BTW what some of the crit circuits like where members live? We have one with a 400m climb at 8%, another with an uphill sprint that flattens out before the finish (only 5m or so), but if they run it in the opposite direction then it is an uphill sprint the whole way. Another circuit we have has along finishing straight, but is 1.2km and it can be exposed to any cross and side winds and can split the bunch up into pieces. Even better is that two of those crit circuits is only a 5 minute bike ride away from where I live.

600m around Delancey Park (just about visible on Google Maps) with about a 5m height variation over the lap. We also use the park every week for a kid's race of some description every week between May and August. Loads of pictures here http://www.guernseyvelo.org.gg/default.asp?pageMarker=photo

I have not raced in several years, but will race some this year in a local mountain bike series, and do a couple of local crits here in Charlotte, and possibly Nevada City in June. I will not post a picture, but if I did, you would see someone about 15 pounds heavier than I need to be (190 vs 175), but nowhere near as pudgy as the fat hammer from Ohio who races cat 3 in a ONCE jersey. Not into posting pictures of myself online based on the amount of hate mail I have received, though based on his picture, I would be happy to entertain chubbyfathammercrank anytime he comes to Charlotte.

Yep. The Saturday trainig ride was the 102 mile Tour de Palm Springs (charity ride). Our ride time was 4:47. I felt pretty good until about 90 miles when some in our group just lit it up. Ouch. This made the Sunday races pretty interesting...

Crit courses in SoCal are usually pretty flat. Maybe a bump here or there, perhaps some wind but mostly just "industrial park" criteriums.
